Lekh Tandon (born 13 February 1929) has directed numerous Bollywood movies and Indian TV Serials. Recently he has acted in movies such as Rang De Basanti and Chennai Express. He is brother of Urdu playwright Yograj Tandon.

Biographie

Lekh's father F. C. Tandon had studied with Prithviraj Kapoor at Khalsa High School, (Lyallpur, Punjab, British India), and had been friends. Prithviraj Kapoor inspired Lekh to work in Bollywood. Around same time, Lekh's brother Yograj was working as assistant director and secretary to Prithviraj Kapoor.

Lekh started as Assistant Director in Hindi movie industry in 1950s and became a director of several hit movies. Then he moved onto nascent TV scene and started directing TV Serials. His first offering was Phir Wahi Talash on Indian National TV Channel Doordarshan. Lekh is also credited with discovering Shahrukh Khan by casting him his TV serial Dil Dariya.

Sue McKinley (Alice Patten), une jeune londonienne, rêve depuis longtemps de réaliser un film d’après les mémoires de son grand-père, membre de la force de police britannique en Inde au début de la révolte indienne pour l’indépendance. Sue se rend à Delhi et, avec l’aide de sa correspondante indienne Sonia (Soha Ali Khan), tente de trouver les acteurs qui joueront le rôle des premiers révolutionnaires indiens. Le casting s’annonce désastreux et Sue finit par engager la bande de copains de Sonia : Karan (Siddarth), Sukhi (Sharman Joshi), Aslam (Kunal Kapoor), Laxman Pandey (Atul Kulkarni) et DJ (Aamir Khan), le meneur de la bande. Cependant ceux-ci ont du mal à comprendre les motivations de leur personnage, eux qui ne croient pas en l’avenir de ce pays corrompu à tous les échelons politiques. Dans ce pays où rien n’a réellement changé depuis l’Indépendance de l’Inde, comment peuvent-ils croire en l’engagement de ces premiers révolutionnaires ? Cependant l’interprétation de leur personnage dans le film de Sue, ainsi que l’événement dramatique survenu à leur ami Ajay (Madhavan), vont les amener à changer totalement et tous vont s’engager dans un combat très dangereux. Pour leur ami et pour changer leur pays et la sociétè de la corruption et de l'injustice ils ont sacrifié leur vie.

Ravi Varma (Navin Nischol) loses his parents in childhood and wife Rajni in an accident. He keeps himself immersed in business. His family physician advises him to take a holiday for rest. Rajkumar Shamsher Singh is the only son of the local Maharaja, and has been brought up as a brat, and now he is an irresponsible, alcoholic, and womanizing adult, who wants everyone to bow down before him and his princely rank. One priest refuses to do so, and Shamsher pummels him mercilessly, in vain though. Frustrated, he asks the priest what he should do with his mundane life, and the priest tells him that he should repent, sacrifice all his palatial pleasures, and live the life of a simple and ordinary man, and hence learn the true meaning of life, for at least six months. Shamsher agrees to do so, and arranges an accident with his car, which plummets down a mountain, explodes and is blown to smithereens. Everyone in the palace believes that Shamsher is dead. He goes to a nearby village, and a blind woman there mistakes him for her long-lost son and starts calling him Sajjan Singh. Shamsher decides to play along as Sajjan.
