Kathryn Adams, née Ethalinda Colson, est une actrice américaine du cinéma muet née le 25 mai 1893 à St. Louis, Missouri, (États-Unis) et décédée le 17 février 1959 d'un arrêt cardiaque à Hollywood.

Biographie

Elle devint une star au début de l'ère du cinéma muet. Elle tourna son premier film en 1915, après une brève expérience en tant que danseuse dans des vaudevilles.
Son fameux regard oblique la catalogua dans des rôles de vamp qui lui valurent une popularité passagère dans la seconde moitié des années 1910.

Mais l'engouement pour les vamps, qui avait permis à Adams de lancer sa carrière, diminua au début des années 1920, la reléguant aux seconds rôles. Excepté un rôle non crédité dans un film Cecil B. DeMille, Le Mari de l'Indienne, en 1931, elle disparaît du monde du cinéma à partir de 1925.

La Guerre de Cent Ans ayant pris fin, la France connaît enfin la paix. Timothy Webb est déshérité par son père, qui lui reproche son mode de vie insouciant. En bleu de travail, Tim part travailler dans l'usine que son père a légué à son oncle, et y devient plombier. Il rejoint le syndicat et découvre que Nicholas Schonn, un bolchevik opportuniste qui fait semblant d'être en accord avec les ouvriers, est en train de fomenter une agitation sociale, aidé en cela par la féministe Elsa Smolski. En faisant croire qu'il rejoint leurs rangs, Tim déjoue les plans de Schonn qui voulait escroquer de 50 000 $ l'héritière Sylvia Kingston, et gagne par la même occasion l'amour de Sylvia. Celle-ci lui offre alors le chèque, qui utilise l'argent pour racheter l'usine de son père et, après avoir augmenté tous les employés, prouve son mérite et parvient à rejeter les fauteurs de troubles hors de l'usine.

John Dant mène une vie de bohème à Paris lorsque son frère jumeau James, un financier anglais, lui demande de prendre son identité afin qu'il puisse aller secrètement pour affaires en Amérique. As summarized in a film publication, Robert Castleback (Lewis) has plans for worldwide power through a mysterious secret that he possesses. Arsene Lupin (Nowell), master thief but loyal Frenchman, knows of the secret and is attempting to obtain state papers held by Castleback. Two other persons in the employ of the Kaiser are attempting the same thing. Castleback is murdered and some suspect Lupin, who announces his intention to catch the real killer. Disguised as the chief of police, he works fearlessly alongside the police. Soon he comes into contact with another master criminal, Ribeira (Beery), who is mascarading as Maj. Parbury, and Lupin suspects that he is complicit in the crime. Lupin falls in love with Dolores Castleback (Adams), widow of the murdered man. When Ribeira, to get rid of Lupin, steals his daughter and informs Lupin that he will have to go alone to a deserted house to get her back, Lupin goes, foils the plot to kill him, and escapes through an underground tunnel that comes out in the home of Delores. As he turns from the mantelpiece where he has discovered the hiding place of the state papers, he sees a mysterious man that he has been trailing. To Lupin's horror he finds that the man is really Delores, who is in reality a German criminal. She kills herself and Lupin escapes.

As described in a film magazine, Jules Marin (Williams), a Paris thief so clever that the police cannot catch him, has been decorated with the Croix de guerre and loves children. He is popular with the underworld and people warn him when the police are coming. He makes an Apache jealous, and this man tells the prefect of police Henri Duval (Shaw) that Marin will be at a particular restaurant. However, Marin is told that one of his adopted orphan, whom he has picked out among the refugees, is sick, and leaves, thus saves himself. On the way to the orphan his car breaks down, and he goes to the home of jeweler Anton Deprenay (Standing) to get a car. The daughter Mme. Helen (Adams) is there alone and, believing that he is on an mission of mercy, lets him use the car, with him leaving his military decoration as collateral. The police later follow and take down the number of the car. When the prefect goes to the Deprenays, the car has been returned. Later, at a party, Marin is introduced to Helen as M. Picard, but she recognizes his voice. Marin recognizes a crooked promoter at the party. A necklace is stolen, and Helen suspects Marin, but he proves his innocence and recovers the gems. Helen tells him that when he gets as good a recognition from society as he obtained in the field of battle, she will be his friend. Marin learns that the promoter has a stock market scheme to swindle the community out of millions, so, while posing as an investigator from Scotland Yard, Marin helps the prefect get the money back. He and Helen ride off in an automobile.

As described in a film magazine, Alfred (Morgan) catches his wife Zoie (Kennedy) in so many lies that he leaves home and establishes an office in Boston. He is very fond of children so Zoie and Jimmie's wife Aggie (Adams) conspire to tell him that an heir has arrived, with Zoie planning on adopting a baby. Before arrangements have been completed for the baby's adoption, Alfred arrives home, necessitating the stealing of a child from a foundling home. The mother of the baby, however, sets up such a rumpus that they decide to return it and borrow the washerwoman's new-born babe, one of a set of twins. More complications result when Jimmie (Cumberland) comes in with the other twin, followed by the washerwoman's husband demanding his children back. While the three babies are being cooed over by Alfred, who believes he is the father of triplets, the respective parents arrive and claim their children.
