Biographie
Kasturi was born at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Her Father was an Engineer at I.I.T and mother was an advocate. She has a younger brother. She was an all rounder in school and had participated many completions like singing, dance and quiz. She was a rank holder in S.S.L.C and Plus two exams and the recipient of Gold medal. She was a state level hockey champion during school days. She was also an active member of National Cadet Corps (India) and became an RD cadet in air force wing. She also participated in the popular quiz show Master Mind India, hosted by Siddhartha Basu and made it to the finals in 2000. She has also done modeling before entering the movie industry. She has even participated in Miss India contest during 1994.She is married to Ravikumar, a U.S based doctor and settled in Arizona, U.S. The couple has a daughter Shobini and a son, Sankalp.
She appears in the photo-book A Beautiful Body Project: The Bodies of Mothers.

The story opens in a village where male infanticide is predominant, and all male babies are required to be killed immediately after birth. One such baby is headed for such a fate, until he "speaks" to his caretaker-grandmother (Paravai Muniyamma) and asks to be sent to Chennai on a goods train, where he plans to grow into a hero. Chandu (Nagarjuna) and Suri (Rajendra Prasad) are pilots and thick friends. Indu (Raveena Tandon) and Padma (Kasthuri) are very good friends. Chandu gets married to Indu and Suri marries Padma. Indu and Padma become pregnant.Indu meets with a car accident and she becomes infertile. Padma gives birth to twins, Ram and Lakshman. Indu and Chandu adopt Ram. After three years, Lakshman is infected by cancer. He needs to undergo bone marrow transplantation. Indu refuses and flees with Ram to Delhi fearing that Chandu will force her to send Ram for operation. Later on, she realizes her mistake and boards a flight to return to her husband so that Ram can be operated upon. Pakistani militants hijack the flight and they divert the flight's route. Lakshman is on his death-bed. How Chandu rescues the flight's passengers and puts an end to the story forms the climax.

Kuppan (Livingston), after losing his mother, comes from the village to live with the family of his uncle Mannangatti (Manivannan) in the city. Mannangatti works abroad for his family. Mannangatti has three daughters : Lakshmi (Kausalya), a soft-spoken girl, and arrogant city girls Pooja (Kasthuri) and Teja (Vineetha), and a son Vellaiyan (Vadivelu) who wants to get married as fast as possible. When Mannangatti comes back from abroad, he decides to arrange his children's marriage. Pooja gets married with the rich NRI Santhosh (Vivek) and Teja gets married with Ramesh (Karan), a government employee, who wants to make it big in life. Vellaiyan falls in love with Jennifer (Kovai Sarala) and marries her. While Lakshmi refuses to marry the person her father has chosen and marries her cousin Kuppan secretly. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.
