Karthik Kumar (born 21 November 1977) is an Indian theatre and film actor. He is popularly known as 'Evam' Karthik, due to his theater connections. He studied chemical engineering in Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Chennai. He is married to playback singer Suchitra Ramadurai . He played a role as Arjun in the Vijay TV drama Dharmayutham. He is the founder of Evam entertainment based out in Chennai. Some of the exceptional plays of Evam are "The 39 Steps" nominated under 8 categories and won two national awards, and "Ali J" which received more accolades during their appearance in Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2013.

Krishna (Vikram) is intellectually disabled and has the mental ability of a six-year old. He lives a peaceful life in the hill station of Ooty. He is cared for by Victor (Krishna Kumar), the owner of a chocolate factory where Krishna works. One day he excitedly announces to the village that he will become a father. That night, his daughter is born, but his wife Banumathy dies during childbirth. Unable to grasp the concept of death, he simply accepts that his wife has "gone to God" and starts life as a father. He names his daughter Nila, and raises her with love and care. She soon grows into a happy young girl (Sara). With the help of Victor and his other mentally challenged friends, Krishna enrolls Nila in school.

The film starts by showing a girl named Revathy (Nithya Menen) forwarding towards the beach and drowning herself in it.The film is then set 18 years back in a slum in Chennai. Balaji (Muthukumar)'s mother dies and his father Jothi (Shimmore), a drunkard, leaves him on the streets. He works hard and ensures a decent living for his younger brother Karthik (Nani) with the help of Revathy's father. Karthik, who studies in an engineering college, spends all his time with his friend Vishnu (Karthik Kumar), who is also brought up in the locality. Revathy in the neighbourhood loves Karthik. Revathy, Karthik and Vishnu are close friends. Vishnu also owns a mechanic shop but is not generating enough income. Vishnu's guardian pesters Vishnu to sell it and to look for a decent job which generates enough income to ensure finacial security for the forseeable future but Vishnu refuses as the shop is the only surviving memory of his late father.

The young college-going Shiva (Prithviraj Sukumaran) is extremely energetic and enthusiastic. Being very short tempered, he gets easily provoked by the rich, proud Vasu (Karthik Kumar) and his sneering attitude. From glares and snarls to punches and fights, Vasu and Shiva do it all, even for unreasonable, petty things. It is Shakthi (Shakthi Vasudevan) who stops their quarrels before they injure each other very badly. As he is friendly, kind-hearted and cool-headed, Shakthi tries to bring Shiva and Vasu together on friendly terms but in vain. Shiva, Shakthi and their faithful friend Bala stay together through thick and thin and are always ready to voice out their views on behalf of the hostelites in the college. Shakthi’s father (Bhagyaraj) often visits his son in the hostel and is like a father to all of Shakthi’s friends. Meera (Priyamani), the daughter of an M.L.A., nurtures a soft corner for Shiva. She is brave enough to stand up to him and check him when he throws unnecessary tantrums. Shalini (Anuja Iyer), Meera’s friend, is a shy, reserved Muslim girl from a very strict family background. She is often preoccupied with her own thoughts. Karthik (Lollu Sabha Jeeva) is a total show-off who tries to humiliate Shiva and Shakthi but ends up making a fool of himself.

Sathyanathan (Nedumudi Venu) is a typical middle class man who has just retired. He wants to buy a plot of land in the city and move in with his wife and children - Uppilinathan(Karthik Kumar), Vishwanathan and Sindhu. But his son Uppilinathan - who is a software engineer - has no interest in the house and is keen to leave India for New York, where he has obtained a job. Sathyanathan buys the plot from "World Famous Properties" which is managed by Vijayakumar(Cochin Hanifa). When he goes to break stone to build his house, he finds a compound wall erected over his plot with the nameplate saying "Baby Properties". After numerous attempts to meet him, Sathyanathan finally meets Baby who wants him to pay half the amount paid for the plot to be paid to Baby in order to vacate the plot. The Sathyanathans try to think of solutions and finally resort to hiring thugs to break the compound at night. Sathyanathan is arrested the next morning. Through all this, Uppilinathan's attitude towards his father's problem changes when he sees how attached he is to the property. Uppili meets a travel agent Asifbhai (bosskey) who was baby's assistant and cheated by him . Uppili with help of his girlfriend convince Daddy (mouli), who is a stage actor and got 136 awards, to act as Varma, an NRI businessman from Dubai who has to India to sell a plot which actually belongs to fisheries board of govt. At last the fishery land is given to Baby and the family get their land.The film ends with family of Sathyanathan living happily ever after. Baby's assistant Johnny reveals there is no man in the name of Varma. Baby acknowledges that he has been cheated and decides cover it up to preserve his reputation.

The movie begins with two young kids who fight each other in a marriage hall. They meet after two decades, now Krishna (Prasanna) and Ramya (Laila) during a college cultural meet and again lock horns with each other. Fate brings them together in Chennai after a few years, again fighting with each other. On the contrary, she is bold, active, independent and assertive in nature. Knowing this, Krishna tries hard to let her true character come out. However, Aravindh stalls the wedding plans and returns to the USA as he finds Ramya as a person who does not think on her own and not independent. Mistaking Krishna for influencing Aravindh, Ramya locks horns with him.
