Harry von Meter (March 20, 1871, Malta Bend, Missouri – June 2, 1956, Sawtelle, California) was an American silent film actor. He was signed by the Thanhouser Company based in New Rochelle, New York in 1912, moving to American Film Studios a year or two later, and starred in about 200 films until 1929. He appeared in the 1923 film The Hunchback of Notre Dame as Mons. Neufchatel.

Bob Hamlin et son frère Victor sont engagés pour convoyer des chevaux dans les montagnes du Mexique. Alors qu'ils sont à la recherche de Buck, qui a volé leurs chevaux, Bob rencontre Conchita, dont la beauté le captive. Mais il courtise Gloria, la petite amie de Buck, pour en savoir plus sur lui. Il arrivera à convaincre Conchita de sa bonne foi, à faire arrêter les hommes de Buck et même à toucher une récompense pour avoir tué El Gallo, un célèbre bandit.

Dans le Paris du XV siècle, la gitane Esméralda danse sur le parvis de Notre-Dame. Sa beauté bouleverse Jehan, frère de l'archidiacre de la cathédrale. Jehan décide de l'enlever avec l'aide de Quasimodo mais elle est sauvée par une escouade d'archers commandée par Phoebus de Châteaupers. Ce dernier, sensible à la beauté de la Gitane, l'invite dans une auberge. Esmeralda réussi à s'échapper mais Quasimodo est fait prisonnier et condamné à recevoir vingt coups de fouet en place publique. Il réclame à boire et c'est Esméralda, dont il est secrètement amoureux, qui lui donne de l'eau fraîche. Phoebus est fiancé à Fleur-de-Lys mais, séduit par la Gitane, il lui donne rendez-vous. Jehan, qui les a suivis, poignarde Phoebus.

Yank Barstow est la capitaine d'un voilier en route pour le Yucatan, avec à son bord Vance Clayton, sa femme Helen et leur fille Peg comme seuls passagers. Clayton accompagne une cargaison de pianos. Quand Barstow apprend qu'ils cachent des armes de contrebande à destination des rebelles, il ne dit rien car il est tombé amoureux d'Helen pendant le voyage. Avant qu'ils atteignent la côte, l'équipage tente une mutinerie et Barstow tue l'un des hommes. Barstow est arrêté au moment de l'accostage, et est condamné à cinq ans de prison. Il s'évade et échoue sur une île habitée par des ramasseurs d'épaves et des exilés politiques. Apprenant qu'une révolution se déroule sur le continent, Barstow conduit les ramasseurs d'épave contre les rebelles et libère l'ambassade des États-Unis. Clayton est tué pendant les combats, libérant ainsi Helen.

Ben Warman, a likable boy with a proclivity for gambling and fighting, alienates the owner of a saloon in a Western mining town by helping a girl remove her drunken father from the premises. In so doing he makes a friend of the Woman, a young schoolteacher who makes Ben promise to give up his vices. Their romance is endangered, however, by the arrival of an Eastern girl, who takes a fancy to Ben, and her brother, who falls for the schoolteacher. The Easterners see that the schoolteacher gets false reports of the cause of Ben's fights, and the schoolteacher leaves for the East to study music. The saloon owner, enlisting the aid of an adventuress, hatches a plan to defraud Ben of a mine claim, but the schoolteacher returns in time to foil the scheme and be reunited with Ben.

As described in a film magazine, Jules Marin (Williams), a Paris thief so clever that the police cannot catch him, has been decorated with the Croix de guerre and loves children. He is popular with the underworld and people warn him when the police are coming. He makes an Apache jealous, and this man tells the prefect of police Henri Duval (Shaw) that Marin will be at a particular restaurant. However, Marin is told that one of his adopted orphan, whom he has picked out among the refugees, is sick, and leaves, thus saves himself. On the way to the orphan his car breaks down, and he goes to the home of jeweler Anton Deprenay (Standing) to get a car. The daughter Mme. Helen (Adams) is there alone and, believing that he is on an mission of mercy, lets him use the car, with him leaving his military decoration as collateral. The police later follow and take down the number of the car. When the prefect goes to the Deprenays, the car has been returned. Later, at a party, Marin is introduced to Helen as M. Picard, but she recognizes his voice. Marin recognizes a crooked promoter at the party. A necklace is stolen, and Helen suspects Marin, but he proves his innocence and recovers the gems. Helen tells him that when he gets as good a recognition from society as he obtained in the field of battle, she will be his friend. Marin learns that the promoter has a stock market scheme to swindle the community out of millions, so, while posing as an investigator from Scotland Yard, Marin helps the prefect get the money back. He and Helen ride off in an automobile.

Kaiser Wilhelm II of Hohenzollern (Rupert Julian) is a vain and arrogant tyrant eager for conquest. When Belgium is invaded by the German army during World War I, Marcas, the blacksmith (Elmo Lincoln), although wounded, is able to save his daughter from the clutches of a German soldier. Soon after this, the RMS Lusitania is sunk by Captain von Neigle (Nigel De Brulier), who ultimately is driven mad with remorse. After the United States declares war, the Allied generals turn the Kaiser over to Albert I of Belgium. Incarcerated, the Kaiser faces his jailer, Marcas the blacksmith.

The film follows the story of Midge O'Hara, a young woman living in the country, who leaves her home in order to perform on Broadway. She able to get hired as a chorus girl, and, at her new job, meets Cherry Blow, a party girl and gold digger. Cherry dates one man, staying with him until his cash runs out, upon which she leaves for someone else wealthy. One of these men is Jack Chalvey, whom Cherry had dated until his expenses from buying her so many things left him in debt. However, Midge's own life becomes more complicated when her boyfriend from the country, Elmer Watkins, comes to propose to her. As described in a film magazine, mining engineer John Stuart Webster (Kerrigan) is headed for Central America. While on his way to Mexico, at a truck stop in Arizona he saves a handsome young girl Dolores (Wilson) from the annoyance of a traveling salesman, and henceforth falls in love with her. Webster is a peace-loving individual, but is all fight when a fight is required. When he arrives in Sobrante, he runs into one of the periodic revolutions. He rescues Dolores from the revolutionaries, with her father being killed and Webster almost killed. She nurses him back to health, and he saves the country, marries the girl, and they set out on a happy life.
