Gollapudi Maruti Rao is an Indian film actor, theatre actor, screenwriter, dramatist, playwright, and dialogue writer known for his works in Telugu Cinema, Theatre arts and Telugu Literature. He has acted in over 230 Telugu films.
His noted literary works and plays, like Rendu Rellu Aaru, Patita, Karuninchani Devatalu, Mahanatudu, Kaalam Venakku Tirigindi, Aasayaalaku Sankellu, have won numerous State Awards.
He was a member of the Script Scrutiny Committee of National Film Development Corporation and served as a Jury Member at International Film Festival of India for Indian Panorama section in 1996. He is known for scripting landmark films like Doctor Chakravarthy, Tharangini, Samsaram Chadharangam, Kallu etc. He has garnered six Andhra Pradesh State Nandi Awards. In 1997, He has established the Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial Foundation, which presents the Gollapudi National Award, for the best first film of a director in Indian cinema.
Rao was also known for his works in All India Radio and Journalism, for over two decades. His play was included in the Master of Arts (Telugu literature) curriculum of Osmania University. This work was translated into all Indian languages by the National Book Trust, under the Aadaan Pradaan programme. The work was remade into a Telugu film in 1988 which won the Nandi Award for the Best Story in 1989. His 1975 play Kallu, was also remade into a Telugu film Kallu, which has also garnered Nandi Award for Best Feature Film. His play Oka Chettu – Rende Puvvulu was purchased by the Song and Drama Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for popular exhibition.
A volume of essays on theatre, Telugu Nataka Rangam, was prescribed as a textbook for the Department of Theatre Arts, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam (1967). He has published two research articles appeared in Andhra Vignana Sarvaswam (Telugu Encyclopedia) 11th volume: "History of the development in 'Thought' and 'Technique' of Telugu Play-writing" and "Amateur Theatre – its origin and growth in relation to the World Amateur Theatre movement. His Telugu play Vandemaataram, the first one in Telugu about the Sino-Indian War, was published by Andhra Pradesh State Information & Public Relations Department, (1963).

This is the parallel story of a love story and a war. Dupati Hari Babu (Varun Tej) is a lower caste man studying in Chennai, in 1936. He falls in love with a girl named Sita (Pragya Jaiswal) who studies with him. They end up falling in love with each other. And after finishing their college, they go back to their hometown, a village named Devarakonda. There, Hari's grandfather and mother live in the same house. Eventually, Hari adjusts with the style of the village, realizing he is from a lower caste. But that does not matter to Hari or Seeta, and they are still in love, though nobody knows about it. Hari makes friends with Eeshwar (Nikitin Dheer), Seeta's brother who is very close with her. Eeshwar eventually finds out about the love birds, and tells his grandfather who raised them about Hari and Seeta's love story. His grandfather then raises a fight between castes in the village, and believes that when all the castes are fighting, it will kill Hari as well. The fights get very serious, and hundreds of people start dying from both the sides. This causes the villagers to set up 2 fences for each caste side, and no one from either of the castes is supposed to cross the fence of the latter. While all this happens, Eeshwar and his grandfather find a nice groom for Seeta and try to marry her off to that man.

The film's story is similar to fantasy films like Yamaleela, Yamudiki Mogudu, Yamagola and Yamadonga. Bullet Raja (Ravi Teja) is a small time crook with a good heart. Narayana) again changes the story and the car that was stuck on the edge of the hill falls down and Bullet Raja And blasts, thus killing him.

The story of the film revolves around a palace known as ‘Gandharva Mahal’ which belongs to Rayudu (Prabhu), the present head of a royal family that has lost its former splendor. This movie starts off with the assassination of Sanjeevayya (Suman), the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the subsequent turmoil in the organization of the state government. The last wish of Sanjeevayya is for his son, Arjun Prasad (Rana Daggubati), to become the next Chief Minister. However, Arjun's cousin Dhanunjay (Subbaraju) has his own dreams of becoming the Chief Minister. Arjun is approached by Ali (Harsha Vardhan) who has given 10 Crores to Sanjeevayya to resolve a land dispute in Ali's favour. Ali pleads Arjun to remind his father about the cash, once he is out of coma, as he has given his entire savings to resolve the issue. Ali also requests Arjun not to disclose it to anyone as he doesn't trust anyone. Arjun speaks to Dhanunjay about Ali but Arjun is somehow convinced that Ali's money would be returned. After Sanjeevayya's death a number of people approach Arjun, saying that his father has given them a huge sum of money and it's their duty to return it to Arjun. Arjun doesn't seem to be too interested until he talks to his mother, Rajeshwari (Suhasini Maniratnam). Arjun's mother tells him that the people who approached him are all corrupted ones, who have looted public's money and also reveals that his father is one among them. Arjun is shocked upon hearing this but his mother tells him that his father wanted to build a corrupt free state and also abolish the caste system but his Peddaina (Sanjeevayya's elder brother) (Kota Srinivasa Rao) doesn't approve of his plans and his only aim was to rule the state along with the family members. Arjun reads his father's diary and finds out how his Pedainna set their whole village on fire due to a small clash with the dalits. His father has also mentioned that only Arjun can make a difference.

Way back in 1800's, on a Diwali midnight, a zamindar insults Goddess Durga by try stealing her idol in the temple in a state of inebriation and gets killed by the enraged Goddess Durga who puts a curse on his heirs that she is going to take one family member each every 48 years on the day of Diwali and one male heir dies accidentally at the end of every 48 years. The present year denotes end of another 48 years and the Target of Durga is Murari, the Grandson of Sabari whose husband died 48 years back because of the curse. He is survived by his father Sattipandu, brothers Sreenayya, Baachi and Soori and their respective wives and kids along with Sabari. Murari is named after Sabari's husband and thus is called with utmost respect by all family members except Gopi who calls him either by his name or as Kanayya. She treats him like her son and even decides to go for abortion clandestinely so that she would not neglect him once she has her own offspring. Thus since his childhood Murari considers Gopi as his mother since his mother died giving birth to him.
