Eleanor Stewart (2 February 1913 – 4 July 2007), was an American film actress of the 1930s and 1940s, appearing mostly in western films.

Stewart attended Northwestern University, and after winning a talent contest, moved to Hollywood in the mid-1930s. Initially on contract with MGM, she eventually worked freelance for various studios, starring often as the heroine opposite Bob Steele, Tex Ritter, Jack Randall, Bob Custer, Ken Maynard and Tom Keene, among others. She is probably best known for her role in the serial The Fighting Devil Dogs, which was released throughout 1938. During the 1940s she did three Hopalong Cassidy films.

During World War II, she was a Gray Lady volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles. She was also a voice actor and a writer. She was the author of A Fair Vision, a book about the Pilgrims. Her career spanned a total of thirty six films. Retiring from film in the 1940s, her last role of the era was in the 1944 Hopalong Cassidy film Mystery Man. She had no acting roles until 1979, when she played a small role in the film The Orphan.

Twice married, she had one child, a daughter, Karen Peterson, from her first marriage to MGM publicity man Les Peterson. Her second marriage was to Maurice Greiner, from 1991 until her death. She died from complications of Alzheimer's disease, at the age of 94.

A statue is being dedicated to the late founder of Hoyt City, and reporters from around the country have gathered, speculating that "the old lady's going to talk." When the anticipated "old lady" does not appear at the event, they rush to her home. She is centenarian Hannah Sempler (Barbara Stanwyck), who lives in an old mansion among the skyscrapers of Hoyt City. As she confronts the press who have barged in, a photographer says, "Hold it, Mrs. Hoyt!" She replies that her name is Hanna Sempler, and refuses to answer their questions as to whether she and Hoyt had been married, which as another reporter says, would make him a bigamist. The intruders leave, having learned nothing to prove or disprove the many rumors, but Hannah is persuaded to tell her story to a young female biographer who lags behind. She reminisces about her experiences with Ethan Hoyt (Joel McCrea) in the American West.

Un officier britannique se rappelle sa rencontre avec une ballerine lors de la Première Guerre mondiale pendant une alerte dans un abri au bout du pont de Waterloo. Myra fait partie d'un ballet, dirigé d'une main de fer par M Olga. C'est un véritable coup de foudre. Ils décident de se marier avant le départ pour le front de Roy. Myra, suivie et soutenue par sa meilleure amie Kitty, quitte le ballet. Roy met tout en œuvre pour la célébration de leur union mais le destin s'acharne et Roy part sans avoir épousé Myra. Roy étant d'une grande et respectable famille écossaise, il a confié Myra – celle-ci n'ayant plus de travail – aux bons soins de sa mère, qui descend à Londres pour rencontrer la jeune fille. Myra patiente dans un salon de thé. En feuilletant le journal, elle découvre le nom de son fiancé dans la colonne des "morts au combat" ; son univers s'effondre... La mère de Roy n'étant manifestement pas au courant, elle fait face du mieux qu'elle peut. Son comportement étrange intrigue la mère de Roy... elles se quittent, se promettant de se revoir mais Myra sait qu'il n'en sera rien. Myra et Kitty survivent comme elles peuvent, elles font ce qu'elles ont à faire pour manger et payer leur loyer, allant jusqu'à tomber dans la prostitution... Mais un jour, le hasard remet Myra et Roy en présence. L'annonce de sa mort était une erreur... Personne ne savait où trouver Myra... Roy est fou de joie et compte bien reprendre la relation là où elle s'est arrêtée. Myra veut y croire mais se rend compte qu'ayant été prostituée, rien ne sera plus comme avant. Elle disparaît, il la cherche partout à Londres jusqu'au pont de Waterloo.
