Elango Kumaravel (Tamil: இளங்கோ குமரவேல்) is an Indian actor and script writer. He is also a co-founder of the Chennai based theatre group "Magic Lantern". He is an alumnus of Pondicherry University's Sankaradas Swamigal School of Performing Arts and the Chennai-based theatre workshop koothuppattarai. He has also worked as a casting assistant for the 2007 film Loins of Punjab Presents and wrote the script for the 2008 film Kattradhu Kalavu. He was involved in the production of "Ey Aa O!" a musical fusion work of collaboration between Indian folk and classical musicians.

The story starts with Karthik, a young advocate (Vijay Antony) at the shopping centre Landmark. A young girl introduces herself as a software engineer and chooses the same film DVD as Karthik. A romantic film called "Kadhaluku Mariyadhai" (Respect for true love). Karthik ends up with a crush on the girl and reveals it to his friend Das. His friend Das (Jagan) who is a house agent helps Karthik settle down in a place that he calls his office. He finds out that he has to share his "office" with another young lady advocate Melina (Sushma Raj). Karthik is surprised to see that this is the same girl he had met at Landmark and introduced herself as an engineer. He accuses her of cheating him but she calls herself "a student passed in merit" and teases him of "passing in attempt". They argue with each other and end up in an agreement that whoever is able to handle a case first gets the whole office to themselves. Das sends Dina to be a handy helper to Melina and Karthik who end up fighting as to who Dina has to attend to first.Melina and Karthik put efforts to find a case and end up in embarrassing and foolish situations. An old couple seeks Karthik's justice for divorce but Melina locks him up in his room and goes to enquire the old couple's case. But Karthik gets out with Dina's help and rushes to enquire intervening Melina. They start fighting and end up in losing the case.

Saravanan (Deepak Dinkar) is a television anchor who is experiencing hard times in both his professional and personal life. He is being bested at his workplace by a colleague, harassed by a loan shark, and fears his girlfriend Deepika (Neha Ratnakaran) is having an affair. Saravanan chooses to escape his troubles by going to a party with his friends where he becomes intoxicated. While drunk he unknowingly tells Mark (Rajendran), who is a hitman, to kill his competitor at work, his loan shark, and Deepika. When he wakes the following morning, he finds that his colleague and his loan shark are dead, and a call from Mark telling Saravanan that he has done what he has asked. Saravanan tries to prevent Mark from killing Deepika. Toward the end, it is revealed that Mark's targets all died by accident before Mark could kill them. While attempting to kill Deepika, Mark falls from a ledge and dies, without Saravanan knowing his true identity as he was drunk when he met Mark. The end shows Saravanan being paranoid that every man who meets Deepika, now his wife, is secretly Mark and trying to kill her without ever knowing that the real Mark is dead.

Kalidasa (Prakash Rai) works in the state archaeological department and is a food lover, he is 45 years old and remains unmarried. His only companion is his cook, Krishna (Thambi Ramaiah). Arjun (Allu Sirish) is a rich kid who has all the luxuries in life. One day, his dad sends him to a village called T Vennure for some business work. After finding a strong opposition from Pasupathy's son Saravanan (Harish) and Palani (Brahmaji), Arjun along with his friend Venky (Sricharan) and Yazhini assemble all their college friends as a group along with the neighbour village youth as a group to find the mystery behind Shanmugam and Rajeswari's absence from the village, only to know that they were killed and buried at the grounds of a Damaged Monument. Arjun stays back there to find out the reason behind the couple's death. After finding a help from Pasupathy's wife (Pavitra Lokesh) and Daughter in Law (Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli), Arjun files a case with the help of Yazhini. The case, though interrupted many times due to Saravanan's men, including the town's police, remains steady due to the efforts of Arjun and his friends. A fine day, on the request of Pasupathy's wife, Palani promises to help Arjun in the mystery. As promised he helps them by narrating the incidents happened actually.

Veluthambi (Vimal), who is driven by the pride of having gained high education, wants nothing less than a government job. Due to compulsion, he finds himself in a village educating the children of people working in the brick kilns. As Velu reaches the village, he is greeted by innocent faces that fear that he would spoil children who are into work. As time passes by, Veluthambi manages to convince the families to send their children to school. He is revered by the villagers as a godsend to lift them out of their miserable lives. In between, in the same village a girl, Madhi (Iniya) falls in love with him but he fails to recognise it. The local bigwig JP (Ponvannan) treats the whole village almost like his bonded labourers. And he is irked by the new-found freedom that the villagers and their children seem to enjoy. He tries to threaten them but fails. Fate comes in the form of a government job for Veluthambi. But he feels the pinch of conscience to leave the children and walk away to a comfortable life. He returns to confess his love for the children and Madhi.

During a walk to the park Raghuraman (Prakash Raj) meets Sudhakar (Prithviraj Sukumaran) and tells him about daughter Abhi (Trisha Krishnan). Raghuraman is the loving husband of Anu (Aishwarya Sivachandran) and the worrisome as well as caring father of his only daughter Abhi. Together they live a calm and content life in Ooty. Also living with them is "Ravi Shastri" (Elango Kumaravel) who was earlier a beggar and was adopted by Abhi. Raghuraman and Abhi become best friends. Over the years as Abhi grows up, Raghuraman has the joy of being a part of her life. When Abhi gets accepted in a prestigious college in New Delhi, Raghuraman is shocked. Although the thought of being separated from his daughter for two whole years is heartbreaking, Raghuraman wearily accepts. After returning from college, Abhi tells her parents that she has fallen in love with a young man in Delhi. Anu is perfectly all right with the idea, but Raghuraman is angry and scared. He shouts at Abi and does not talk to her properly. Anu later informs Raghuraman that their future son-in-law will be arriving by flight and staying with them for a while. As soon as Raghuraman meets his future son-in-law, Joginder Singh (Ganesh Venkatraman), he is taken aback because Joginder is a Sikh. After many conflicts with Abhi and Anu, Raghuraman finally realizes that Joginder is self-sacrificing and quite talented, more so when on one occasion the Prime Minister calls him for advice. Abhi and Joginder get married and leave for Delhi. Anu and Abhi get teary-eyed, but Raghuraman stays calm. This is very surprising because he was the one that had cried on his daughter's first day to school. Raghuraman tells Sudhakar that he still stays in touch with his daughter and often gets to see her. Sudhakar understands how Raghuraman feels because he has a baby daughter himself. The movie ends with a phone call from Abhi.
