Wishing to drive her father's car, Barbara Jackson (Doris May) dresses up in the chauffeur's uniform and sneaks out. For a lark, she picks up a passenger (John Gough), but it develops that passenger is part of a team of crooks who are planning to rob Bob Everett (Hallam Cooley), a rival of her father, of his precious artworks. Believing her to be an undercover detective, the bandit forces her to take part in the robbery and then abandons her to be caught by Everett. After convincing Everett that she was a forced accomplice and not the real thief, the two hurry to meet up with Barbara's father, William Jackson (Otis Harlan). He had just purchased one of the paintings from an art dealer (Harry Carter), and the dealer had left moments before Barbara and Everett arrive. As the two explain the deception, William informs him that he became suspicious when recognizing the painting as one owned by Everett and that he had the dealer held at the front gate. The police arrive and round up the crooks.

Le sergent William Gray a des ennuis constamment au camp d'entraînement à cause de ses blagues. Bien qu'il ne pense pas gagner, Gray parie avec le sergent du mess qu'il sera invité à petit déjeuner par l'officier commandant le camp, le Général Dodge. Plus tard, Gray rencontre Peggy, la fille du général, et ils tombent amoureux l'un de l'autre. Lorsque la compagnie de Gray obtient une permission de 23h30, il met un uniforme neuf fait par un tailleur pour rencontrer Peggy. Comme c'est contraire au règlement, l'officier de sortie lui ordonne de l'enlever. Le reste de la compagnie est lui aussi habillé contrairement au règlement et ils doivent tous enlever leur uniforme. Alors qu'ils grelottent dans leurs sous-vêtements, les hommes accusent Gray d'en être responsable. Gray s'enfuit du camp, rencontre Peggy, et arrive à capturer des espions ennemis près du camp. Le général lui fait des louanges pour son acte héroïque et Gray gagne à la fois son pari et la main de Peggy.

As described in a film magazine, Matthew Denton (Ray) finds out that, because the Centipede oil wells do not pay a dividend, the villagers consider his father to be a swindler. He leaves his mother and New England home to go to Centipede, Texas, to ascertain the cause of the shortage of oil. He becomes an employee under the direction of Banty Jones (Elmer), foreman of the wells, and a crook. He falls in love with Mabel Glenny (May), whom Jones considers to be his "gal." When Mabel shows Matthew her engagement ring, Jones gives him a specified amount of time to get out of town. However, Matthew has found a valve that causes oil to be diverted to another company. He also learns that Jones is receiving the benefit from these stolen oil sales. A fight breaks out between the two men with Matthew the winner. Jones, humiliated, leaves, and Mabel is proud of Matthew. Back home the villagers are happy that the oil wells are safe and that dividends will be forthcoming again.
