Derrick Stacey Borte (born December 7, 1967) is an American filmmaker known for the dark comedy, The Joneses (2010), which he wrote, directed, and produced.
Derrick Borte was born on December 7, 1967 in Frankfurt, Germany to parents Donald and Susan Borte. When Borte was less than a year old, the family moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where his father designed and built custom homes.
Borte later moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he graduated from First Colonial High School. He and his younger brother, professional surfer and writer Jason Borte, travelled the world, surfing.
Borte began his career as a graphic artist for surf companies such as Billabong, Gotcha, and Rip Curl.
He graduated from Old Dominion University with a BFA in painting, and quickly achieved success as an artist, showing work in galleries on both coasts. He earned an MA from the media studies program at The New School in New York City, and joined the production staff at Sony Music Studios, where his fine arts background evolved with his indoctrination to film and video.
Derrick Borte made his feature directorial debut with The Joneses, which he also wrote and produced.
