Chhaya Devi (Bengali: ছায়া দেবী) (1914–2001) was an Indian film actress. She has acted in hundreds of Bengali and Hindi language movies for over five decades and played many character roles. Her first lead role was in Sonar Sansar (1936), directed by Debaki Bose, and later with Bidyapati (1937) she received acclaim and went on to act in notable films like, Nirjan Saikate (1963), Hatey Bazarey (1967) and Apanjan (1968) by Tapan Sinha, Saptapadi (1961), Uttar Falguni (1963), Antony Firingee (1967), in Bengali, Alaap (1977) in Hindi, which also starred Amitabh Bachchan.
She was first cousin of actor Ashok Kumar's wife Shobha Ganguly, thus related to the Ganguly family.

Arun, Barun and Kiranmala were orphaned brothers and sisters. One day they went in search of their parents. So they first visited the Jogini Durbar where they were helped with magic equipments like a golden stick etc. Then they went to Maya Puri where they found spirits trapped by the witch of the Maya Puri. After many hurdles they finally killed the witch and helped the fairies to escape. The fairies then promised to tell them about their parents. They were taken for lunch to the Jogini Durbar where the king of Arabia also joined them. It was soon discovered that three children were the children of this king. The five fairies revealed how the sister of the king's wife played tricks and let the three children flow in the river for which the king punished his wife and banished her from the palace. Finally there was a happy reunion and Arun, Barun & Kiranmala found their parents and all lived happily ever after.

Widowed Advocate Triloki Prasad (Om Prakash) lives a wealthy lifestyle in a small town in India with two sons, Advocate Ashok (Vijay Sharma) married to Geeta (Lily Chakravarty) and Alok (Amitabh Bachchan) who has yet to settle down in their law firm. Alok is fond of music and does enroll in classes run by Pandit Jamuna Prasad (A. K. Hangal). On his return, his father asks him to accompany Ashok to their law firm and start learning to practice, which he agrees to do. Then one day Triloki finds out that Alok has not been at the firm but is instead spending time in the local slums with a former courtesan named Sarju Bai Banaraswali (Chhaya Devi). He cautions Alok about this, but Alok continues to visit Sarju Bai. When Mr. Gupta (Yunus Parvez) approaches Triloki about taking possession & demolishing the slum area, Triloki readily agrees and with his expertise manages to sway the Court's decision in Gupta's favor. As a result, Sarju Bai and others are rendered homeless. With the fee he receives from Gupta, he asks Alok to purchase a used car for himself. But Alok purchases a horse-carriage and decides to drive it himself to make a living. His enraged father asks him to leave the house. When Triloki finds out that Alok is doing well in his work, he decides to hire motor coaches to transport people at a much cheaper price, thus cutting off Alok's earnings and perhaps forcing him to reconsider his decision, apologize, and return home to his father.

Kakali joins Baren as a receptionist. And trouble starts in Sukanta's family. Sukanta the research scolar misjudges the relation of Kakali and Baren .Kakali leaves one day after a heated exchange and takes. The nephew of Sukanta who loves his aunt misses her .He goes missing. . In the meantime Baren comes to everything from Kakali and he takes the initiative to solve. Anandamoyee (Chhaya Devi) is a childless widow in a Bengal village. One day a man turns up, claiming to be her nephew. He takes her to live with him and his family in Calcutta. In the city, she experiences something akin to culture shock, as she encounters children begging on the streets and day-to-day violence. She finds the idea of women working at office jobs very strange, and even wearing any kind of footwear is new for her. The couple with whom she lives want her to look after their child, which she does gladly since they are her "own people". However, eventually she realises that she is being exploited as an unpaid nanny. She moves out to a downbeat area of the city, to look after two street children. They are part of the 'family' of Robi (Swaroop Dutta), the leader of a gang of educated young men who are active participants in the street violence that engulfs the city. With these outsiders, Anandamoyee feels a sort of kinship, and even a sense of being in a family, which she never enjoyed with her actor husband. Robi's gang is always at daggers drawn with a rival gang led by Chheno (Samit Bhanja). The two gangs are enlisted by cynical politicians, to serve their own ends. The gang war continues, albeit with an ostensibly political colour, reaching a melodramatic climax, with a tragic resolution.
