Ashok Mehta (1947- August 15, 2012) was a noted Indian film cinematographer, known for films such as Bandit Queen (1994), 36 Chowringhee Lane (1981) and Utsav (1984). He won the National Film Award for Best Cinematography twice, 36 Chowringhee Lane (1981) and Moksha (2000), the latter he also directed.
He worked both with directors of mainstream Bollywood, like Subhash Ghai (Ram Lakhan (1989), Saudagar (1991)) and Rajiv Rai (Gupt (1997)), Mukul Anand (Trimurti (1995)), as well as parallel cinema directors, like Shyam Benegal (Trikaal (1985), Mandi (1983)), Aparna Sen (36 Chowringhee Lane (1981), Paroma (1984)). He also worked on films, including Shekhar Kapoor's Bandit Queen (1994), Girish Karnad's Utsav (1984), Gulzar's Ijaazat (1987) and MF Hussain's Gaja Gamini (2000).
Early in 2012, he was diagnosed with lung cancer, and he died in Mumbai in August 2012, at the age of 65.

The story focuses on Shekhar (Akshaye Khanna), who is currently an assistant director, hoping to write and direct his own movie soon. His friend Raju (Arshad Warsi) is a struggling actor who has been waiting for Shekhar to write a film script so he can star in. However, when Shekhar rejects him as the film's hero, Raju decides to steal Shekhar's film script and release the film under his own name. The film is released and turns out to be an blockbuster, leading Raju to stardom. Heartbroken Shekhar, at this time, is left by his girlfriend Mansi (Amrita Rao). Lack of confidence, Shekhar writes an new and better film script and wants to star Raju in it, however when Raju rejects the script, Shekhar decides to film the movie without Raju knowing he is in it. Shekhar and his low-budget film crew follow Raju around everywhere to complete their movie. Eventually, when the movie is finished, it turns out that Raju's role in the film was embarrassing and humiliating, and turns Raju into a box office bomb. Shekhar's film succeeds and he is offered more movies. Raju turns into a flop, and decides to steal someone else's script.

The story follows rich businessman Shravan Dhariwal (Sanjay Dutt). Shravan has everything one can dream of having and what he doesn’t have, he buys it. Ses amis disent que Raj se laisse aller, mais Raj refuse, car il est tombé amoureux de la femme fantôme. Il découvre que Shivani est en fait dans le coma à l'hôpital, et les machines qui la retiennent en vie sont sur le point d'être coupées. Raj décide de la sauver, il l'emmène à son appartement pour s'occuper d'elle. Le médecin de Shivani veut la tuer comme elle a été témoin d'une opération illégale d'un rein qui a été retiré d'un homme. Shivani admet finalement qu'elle est tombée amoureuse de Raj, mais l'inspecteur Smith est sur sa piste et finit par trouver Shivani et découvre aussi le trafic d'organes du médecin. Peu de temps après, Shivani se réveille de son coma et ne se souvient pas de Raj et le temps qu'elle a passé avec lui, comme un fantôme. Raj, déçu, ses feuilles à l'hôpital et décide de faire sa connaissance à nouveau: il la trouve dans un restaurant et se présente.

Il y a aussi l'ami de Kishen, Sunny (Fardeen Khan) alias Shekhar, qui tombe par hasard amoureux de Sanjana (Celina Jaitley). Kishen rencontre Bobby (Bipasha Basu), une call-girl. (Elle a été recrutée par Prem, qui a surpris Kishen prenant des photos de lui et de sa maîtresse et menacé de les envoyer à sa femme. Le plan est que Kishen tombe amoureux d'elle, et Prem veut voir s'il pourra cacher sa liaison.) Par la suite, Bobby et Kishen sont présentés comme un couple aux fiançailles de Shekhar et il se trouve que Kaajal est, elle aussi, invitée au mariage de Sunny et Sanjana. On devine comme la situation s'embrouille au moment où tous les couples se rencontrent.
