Alejandro Fernández Abarca ([aleˈxandro feɾˈnandes]; born 24 April 1971) is a Mexican singer.
Nicknamed as "El Potrillo" (The Colt) by the media and his fans, he has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Alejandro is the son of the ranchera singer Vicente Fernández. He originally specialized in traditional, earthy forms of Mexican folk music, such as mariachi and ranchera. He has branched out into pop music with great success.
In the late 1990s, his older brother Vicente, Jr. was kidnapped by a band of organized crime. The kidnappers cut off one of his fingers and sent it to his father as a warning. After Vicente Fernández paid an allegedly big sum of money, Vicente, Jr. was released. The exact amount was never announced.
He is co-owner of a shopping center in Guadalajara called "Unicenter", where there are different types of businesses, creating jobs for over 170 people.
Alejandro participated with his family in the construction of Arena VFG, with capacity for 11,000 people it is basically dedicated to music shows and charreria competitions. He is an expert in horse riding and charreria. Alejandro supports the Mexican team Atlas.
He has five children. Three (Alejandro, Jr. and the twin girls América and Camila) with his ex-wife América Guinart and two (Emiliano and Valentina) with Colombian model Ximena Díaz.

Alejandro Fernández was born in Mexico City and raised in Guadalajara. He studied to become an architect, but turned to singing in 1991 encouraged by his father. Alejandro is the youngest son of his family. He has two older brothers, Vicente, Jr. and Gerardo, and a sister, Alejandra. He and his brothers are known in Mexico as "Los tres potrillos" (The three colts).In the late 1990s, his older brother Vicente, Jr. was kidnapped by a band of organized crime. The film happens in the last quarter of the 19th century and the first nineteen years of the twentieth, during the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz (Justo Martínez), the presidency of Francisco I. Madero, the military revolt of Victoriano Huerta (Jesús Ochoa), the Convention of Generals and, finally, the death of Zapata (Alejandro Fernández), already in the constitutionalist stage of Venustiano Carranza. The film does not try to be a chair of history but a fable that obtains the identification of the spectators with the hero, through the successive confrontation of the protagonist with the power, represented in the antagonistic figure of Victoriano Huerta. In it, Emiliano Zapata appears like predestining, "the signal" in his chest, the mark or spot with the form of a little hand is the sign that identifies him as "the one" by the Huehuetlatolli (the heirs of the tradition) to be their guide. Thus, we see the birth of Emiliano, where he is recognized like the possible leader of his town. Zapata will have to break with his vision of the "real reality" and to enter in that other magical knowledge of the Mexican tradition and its inscrutable religious "sincretismo".
