The night before Memorial Day, Tyra and Trevor are stabbed to death in their apartment by a cloaked figure in a black and white papier-mâché mask. The next day, Rachel, her cousin Leo, and their five friends (Mickey, Cindy, Seth, Reagan and Jeremy) head to Memorial Lake Campground for the first time since Rachel's adopted brother Danny accidentally drowned there three years ago. After reaching the camp and setting up, the group drink around a campfire and tell ghost stories, though Seth goes back to the cabins to watch television, and catches a news broadcast mentioning the murders of Tyra and Trevor, who were supposed to come along on the trip. Seth rushes back to the others and tells them about what happened to Trevor and Tyra, just as a booby trap launches a spear into Jeremy, killing him, and scattering the group.

On winning a new construction project, Rajiv moves with his family to a new place, one which is both close to the woods as well as the beach. Rajiv's mother has gone to Rishikesh, so he stays there only with his wife, 2 kids and housemaid Laxmi. Rajiv's kids, Raksha and Rohan begin exploring the new place and the surroundings - the lonely beach and then the woods behind the house. They are soon visited by Rajiv's sister Arushi and her husband Ronnie, who have come to spend some time with the family.

Un tueur en série, gourou d'une secte et ancien proviseur revient d'entre les morts. Il veut hanter son ancien établissement. Son petit fils va tenter de protéger les lieux et chasser le mauvais esprit. Il est aidé du concierge, du plus mauvais élève, ainsi que la bibliothécaire. La colère du spectre ne tarde pas pour décourager les importuns, car il veut régner en maître sur son ancien territoire de chasse. Les meurtres vont se succéder, mais rien ne décourage les quatre héros.

Kristy se réveille et se retrouve piégée sous les ruines d'une montagne russe en bois délabrée à l'intérieur d'un parc d'attractions abandonné . Elle se retrouve rapidement terrorisée par les mythes et les légendes urbaines qui font désormais partie des 130 ans d'histoire du lac Chippewa . En tentant de s'échapper, Kristy rencontre James, dont les parents sont les gardiens du parc. James écoute Kristy et l'aide à enquêter. Il découvre que lui aussi est maintenant piégé à l'intérieur du parc. Kristy et James rencontrent un mystérieux forain maquillé de clown, qui était autrefois responsable de l'exploitation des montagnes russes du parc d' attractions mais qui est mort de nombreuses années auparavant. Il conseille au couple que leur seule échappatoire est de revivre et de survivre à tous les récits potentiellement mortels du passé du parc et de monter une dernière fois dans les manèges désormais opérationnels du parc.
