Cerasella est une jeune fille napolitaine sur le point d'épouser Alfredo. Ne l'aimant pas, peu avant le mariage, il s'échappe en se réfugiant sur un petit bateau où il rencontre le riche et beau Bruno qui, à son tour, s'apprête à épouser Nora. Le père de Bruno fait pression pour que son fils quitte Nora, soupçonnant que la fille ne s'intéresse qu'à la fortune de la famille et non au fils. Bruno n'accepte pas l'ultimatum de son père qui le déserte. Le garçon a maintenant perdu sa fortune ainsi que Nora qui, compte tenu de la situation, décide de le quitter.
