Electrocuting an Elephant
Réalisé par Edwin S. Porter, Thomas Alva Edison
Origine Etats-Unis
Genres Documentaire
Thèmes Mise en scène d'un animal, Mise en scène d'un éléphant, Mise en scène d'un mammifère
Acteurs Thomas Alva Edison

This film documents the publicly announced January 4, 1903 killing of Topsy the elephant at the (still under construction) Luna Park on Coney island. The elephant had recently been acquired from Forepaugh Circus where she had a reputation as a "bad" elephant, having killed a drunken spectator the previous year who burnt the tip of her trunk with a lit cigar. After several incidents at Luna Park (sometimes attributed to the actions of her drunken handler, William "Whitey" Alt) the owners of Luna Park, Frederick Thompson and Elmer Dundy, claimed they could no longer handle the elephant and announced they would hang Topsy in a public spectacle and charge admission. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals stepped in, questioning the idea of hanging an elephant as well as making a public spectacle out of the death of an animal. Thompson and Dundy cut the event back to invited guest and press only and agreed to use a more sure method of strangling the elephant with large ropes tied to a steam powered winch. They also agreed they would use poison and electricity as well.
UFOs: It Has Begun, 1h37
Origine Etats-Unis
Genres Documentaire
Acteurs Rod Serling, Burgess Meredith, José Ferrer

The film opens with Serling asking open-ended philosophical questions about the origin of humanity on Earth, juxtaposing evolution and religion with a variation of the ancient astronaut hypothesis. Serling steps in front of the camera, similar to his routine on The Twilight Zone, and suggests that just as humans look at the sky and question where we came from, so too might extraterrestrial beings.
The Story of David, 3h11
Réalisé par David Lowell Rich, Alex Segal
Origine Etats-Unis
Genres Drame, Documentaire, Historique
Thèmes Religion, La bible, Religion juive
Acteurs Timothy Bottoms, Anthony Quayle, Norman Rodway, Keith Michell, Jane Seymour, Susan Hampshire

The narrative follows David's life from the time he was a boy shepherd to his death as the aged King of Israel. Part 1: David and King Saul relates the exploits of the young David (Bottoms) and his relations with King Saul (Quayle). It begins with David as a humble shepherd who becomes harp player to the King who is distraught after the prophet Samuel has chastised him for failing to follow the instructions of the Israelite god, Yahweh, in a battle. Samuel informs Saul that Yahweh will anoint another king in his place. Saul is full of jealous rage as David becomes hero to his people after the battle with Goliath and his subsequent anointment. Saul makes attempts on David's life. David is highly conflicted over his devotion to Saul as Yahweh's first anointed King over the people. He will not kill Saul, despite Saul's constant attempts on his own life, as he feels it will offend the deity. Saul dies in battle and David assumes the throne. Part 2: David the King begins with a mature David (Michell) and tells the story of his sinning with Bathseba (Seymour), including the scenes with her bath and their subsequent love-making. As David ages he is challenged by the treason of one of his sons, and eventually passes the crown on to another of his sons, Solomon.
