Antonio is the modest butler of the noble and flawed Gastone who loves madly beautiful elusive to Lulu. Enfant perdu, Antonio a vécu pendant plusieurs années dans la jungle en compagnie du singe Bongo. Mais un jour, une troupe de scouts passe dans les forêts du Congo et le découvre. Don Felice Sciosciammocca becomes mayor of the town of Roccasecca. The grandson Ciccillo is an idler that is in the distant Naples to spend unnecessary money that his uncle sends him to continue his studies in medicine and a friend supports him in pursuing this futile activity hilarious. However one day Don Felice choose to go with the whole family in town to see the new hospital that opened Ciccillo, as he had written falsely relative to the first day, and then to his grandson will be trouble. In fact Ciccillo wanted more money and come up with a good reason to justify the request he made up the story that he had opened a clinic for the mentally ill. Now to extricate himself from deception Ciccillo asks an acquaintance to give him a few hours to control a pension for old to make her visit to Don Felice. Man, being a simpleton, he sees a group of old men who are trying some scenes of a tragedy of William Shakespeare and then sees people coming and going to his bedroom at night. So Felice really believe to be in a clinic crazy, but sooner or later the chickens come home to roost and Don Felice discovers the truth.

Italy is about to take the famous cycling race of 1948, the event is seen by everyone, even by Dante Alighieri and by the Roman Emperor Nero from top of the Paradise. Totò is a mild professor who knows nothing about cycling and bicycles, but to make a good impression with her students is at stake practicing day after day. But Totò proves to be a total failure and so desperate calls the devil. This really comes and offers him a contract: Totò would win all cycling races past champions like Gino Bartali or Fausto Coppi, but in the end he had to give his soul and life after the demon. Totò initially includes only the first part of the contract or to win all the races, but then the demon appears to him a second time to remind him of the price you pay. Totò is desperate and does everything possible to not win the last race, but the legs on the pedals are as haunted and Totò can not stop. Approaching the last race and Totò is on the verge of collapsing morally, but his friends and the lovely Dorina, which Totò was madly in love, you invent a trick so clever as to deceive even the Devil.

The story is set in Paris in the middle of the 19th century. Caspar (Totò) and the Baptist (Campanini) are two poor homeless staying in an orphanage, not knowing where to stay. One day the two orphans are called by the director to solve a very special case: Susanne, a girl from the orphanage would like to marry a rich young but her father is against it because he does not know anything about the origins of his girlfriend. So Gasparre has the bright idea to cut a lock of hair to swap it with that of Susanne and so the father of the rich man discovers that the owner of the hair is of noble origins and thus a relative. Caspar along with the Baptist enters the new family but the nobles Parisians have in mind to delete the new emperor Napoleon III of France and the two tramps are involved against their bungling. Being in the real room of the emperor, Napoleon immediately catches them and makes them stop, so Caspar and Baptist are sentenced to the guillotine. But just as the ax is about to fall on their heads, the two orphans wake up with a start: it was all a dream.
