Alors que les États-Unis viennent d'entrer en guerre en 1917, de nombreuses campagnes de recrutement sont lancées à travers tout le pays. Oliver Hardy apprend la nouvelle dans le journal alors qu'il est assis sur un banc avec son compagnon de toujours Stanley Laurel. Hardy se sent l'envie de s'engager mais quand Laurel l'interroge, il reconnaît être trop paresseux de nature. C'est alors qu'un escadron passe près d'eux, dirigé par un sergent faisant du prosélytisme. Laurel et Hardy tentent la fuite pour éviter de perdre leur réputation en refusant de s'enrôler. Ils sont toutefois rattrapés aisément par le sergent, à qui ils tentent de faire croire qu'ils sont amputés d'un bras. Ce même sergent, désolé, offre à Laurel une pièce pour s'excuser, mais ce dernier révèle alors son bras prétendument manquant. Les deux nigauds pris au piège se laissent donc recruter et rient hypocritement.

Ordonné hors de la ville par colère juge Beaumont, Stanley et vagabonds Oliver rencontrent un ivrogne sympathique qui les invite à rester à son manoir luxueux. L'ivrogne ne peut pas trouver sa clé, mais les garçons trouver un moyen, l'envoi de la femme surprise à l'intérieur dans un faible. Ils lui font revivre avec ce qu'ils pensent est de l'eau, mais est en fait le gin, et tout se griser dans le processus. A l'extérieur, l'ivrogne se rend compte qu'il est à la mauvaise maison et tombe hors tension. Finalement, le vrai propriétaire arrive, nul autre que le juge Beaumont.

The gang along with other poor children in the town are given a party with games and great food to eat. In addition, each child would be given a food basket to bring home to their parents. Its given by a wealthy woman whose husband is running for office. Meanwhile a couple criminals have set up two midgets to come to the party as babies. They would steal tons of expensive jewelry and planned on robbing a safe filled with tons of money. Stymie caught the "fidgets" in the safe. The rest of the gang come to Stymie's rescue as the midgets pull a gun. An alarm goes off and the police come and arrest the midgets and all ends well.

The trio play medical school graduates whose only credentials are that they had the highest temperatures in their class. They are hired as doctors at the "Los Arms Hospital" only because they have been in their senior class for too many years. The new graduates at the hospital are warned by the superintendent that all three of them (the Stooges) are "not overly bright," but it is rumored that their identities will be concealed as long as they promise to devote their lives to "the glorious cause of duty and humanity", which prompts the three to step forward and thank him profusely for not being able to let their identities be known. The superintendent has told the Stooges to rush and answer the loudspeaker whenever their names are called. The short consists of a series of skits in which the Stooges go from one patient to the next, making mistakes ranging from drinking a patient's medicine to sewing their tools inside a man on the operating table.

The Stooges are "recruited" by a college to drum up publicity for the college's football team by being dressed up as football players. Meanwhile, the owner of a professional football team, Joe Stacks, has to find three new players for the next game. One of Joe's girlfriends soon meets the Stooges and confuses them for genuine college football players known as "The Three Horsemen" (a parody of the "Four Horsemen" of Notre Dame fame). The Stooges go back to her house and meet the girl's two friends.
