Thunai Mudhalvar (English: Deputy Leader) is a 2015 Indian Tamil political satire film written by K. Bhagyaraj and directed by R. Vivekanandan. The film stars Bhagyaraj and Jayaram in the lead roles while Shweta Menon and Sandhya among others form an ensemble cast. Music for the film was composed by four different music directors and the film opened to negative reviews in April 2015.

Swami Amritananda (Mohanlal) arrives in Kerala on a mission to bring peace at the state, which is burning with communal riots. After his retirement from Indian Railways, as station master, Raghavan Nair (Thilakan) is back at his home. His long cherished dream to spend his retired life along with his family consisting of wife (Kaviyoor Ponnamma), three sons and two daughters gets a blow after seeing his two sons brawling each other over their political differences. Prabhakaran (Sreenivasan), the elder one is a staunch leftist, and an active worker of the Revolutionary Democratic Party (RDP) which has just lost the Kerala state Assembly elections and relinquished office. Prakashan (Jayaram), popularly known as KRP, his younger brother is involved with the Indian National Secular Party (INSP) which has now come to power. Though they are both educated, neither has any plans to earn a living on their own and are fully immersed in petty politics, sponging off their parents for their needs. Raghavan Nair becomes deeply worried about their future, and tries to advise his sons, but of his admonitions fall on deaf ears. Anandan (Mala Aravindan), his son-in-law is a police sub-inspector but is now on suspension. When the RDP was in power, he arrested and beat up several of the opposition party workers on instruction from the ruling party officials. Now that the previous opposition is in power, they exact their revenge, first by transferring him repeatedly to stations as far away from civilisation as is possible, and then by suspending him. As part of his retired life, Raghavan Nair decides to focus his attention on his agricultural activities and meets the new young agricultural officer (Siddique) and, with his wife's approval, wants their younger daughter to get married to him, but his elder sons oppose it on flimsy and petty reasons. Prakashan, whose party is in power, pulls strings and get him transferred immediately to a remote location in order to prevent the marriage but Nair gets them married at the registrar's office. In the meantime, Anandan and his wife, Raghavan Nair's eldest daughter, demand partition of the property and their share, which Raghavan Nair objects to. The last straw is when their mother falls ill and is hospitalised for a day or so, and none of her children bother to show up at the hospital - in particular, the two older sons. Raghavan Nair, when he sees all of them milling around his house on returning from the hospital, loses his temper. He throws out all his children and orders them never to enter his house again. But to his surprise he finds both Prakasan and Prabhakaran at the gate, fully repented. He calls them in and they begin a new life. The film ends by showing Prabhakaran going to court as a lawyer and Prakashan for a job interview.

The film explores the practice that makes martyrs of the local political activists who are willing to sacrifice their life for ideologies. The film is also a poignant love story of a Meera (Sabitha Jayaraj) and her relentless fight against her own family and society for the man she love. Along with Meera's battle to save Thomas, the film also makes a statement on the tragedy caused by the pesticide Endosulfan, in Kasaragod district. Thomas is an activist who fights for the rights of the victims of Endosulfan.

The film is set in Kannur, a veritable killing field for political rivals of different hues. Jayakrishnan (Anoop Menon) is the son of the Communist Party Secretary Madayi Surendran (Shivaji Guruvayoor) who is averse to any progress funded by multinational corporations. Jayakrishnan, a Jawaharlal Nehru University product who believes in non violent political ideology, don't like the way politics is practised and had once left the state disheartened with the developments. He is them goes to Agra and works as a guide for the Taj Mahal archaeological department. He returns to Kannur and falls in love with Radhika (Sandhya), who happens to be the daughter of Divakaran (Riza Bava), Surendran's biggest political rival. Jayakrishnan's political views and this love affair leads to direct confrontation between the father and his more 'modern' son.

En 1973, à la suite d'un coup d'état, s'installe en Uruguay une dictature militaire qui s'empresse d'emprisonner les opposants politiques. Incarcérés sans procès pendant douze ans, les trois hommes sont torturés, privés de tout contact, ballotés de geôles sordides en culs de basse fosse, affamés et maintenu dans un état de crasse indescriptible. Malgré cela, les trois hommes résistent en repensant aux moments heureux de leur vie, en communiquant en frappant sur les murs ou en mettant en évidence l'absurdité du régime pénitentiaire. Ils font échouer ainsi le plan des militaires de les rendre fous faute de pouvoir les tuer.

Eddie Clark raconte comment est née sa société "Bamboo Blonde". Pendant la guerre, le lieutenant Patrick Ransom, Jr. se rend au club d'Eddie à New York avec l'équipage de son bombardier. Pat, le fils d'un riche Pennsylvanien, y rencontre la chanteuse Louise Anderson et dîne avec elle. Officiellement fiancé à Eileen Sawyer, une jeune femme snob, Pat est attiré par le côté terre-à-terre de Louise. Louise accompagne Pat à l'aéroport. Avant d'embarquer avec son équipage pour le Pacifique sud, Pat demande à Louise de prendre une photo d'elle et la garde en souvenir. À Saipan, Pat est l'objet de moqueries de la part de son équipage à propos de sa "petite amie", mais il est trop embarrassé pour avouer qu'il ne connaît pas son nom. Comme le bombardier n'arrive plus comme auparavant à abattre des avions ennemis, l'équipage décide d'utiliser la photographie de Louise comme modèle d'une figure peinte sur leur avion. Ensuite, leurs succès lors des batailles fait se porter l'attention sur le portrait, surnommé "Bamboo Blonde". À New York, Eddie commence à profiter de cette célébrité en promouvant Louise comme la véritable "Bamboo Blonde".
