The World's Applause is a 1923 American silent film drama starring Bebe Daniels. It was produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures. William C. deMille directed the film and it was written and scripted by his wife Clara Beranger. This is now considered a lost film.

After living with adventuress Belle (Williams) in Paris, Nigel (Warwick) proposes, but she rejects him for a wealthier suitor. Nigel returns to England, where his friend Brian (Forman) hires him to manage his estate. Nigel falls in love with Brian's ward Monica (Hawley). Brian travels to Paris and meets Belle. Unaware of her past, Brian marries her, and, when they return to England, Belle says nothing when they meet her ex-lover Nigel. Belle, who had only married for money, then discovers that Brian's family is bankrupt, and begins an affair with Roupelle (Cummings). After Nigel discovers that she is planning to elope, he prevents the betrayal, but their prior affair is revealed to Brian. However, Monica forgives him for his transgressions.

Le père d'une famille excentrique, les Wheeler, embauche un ex-soldat, Clarence, comme homme de mains. Clarence s'éprend de la gouvernante de la famille, Violet. Quant à M Wheeler, elle nourrit peu à peu une attirance grandissante pour Clarence. De son côté, Hubert Stein, le secrétaire de M. Wheeler, montre un jour à M. Wheeler un article sur un certain Charles Smith, déserteur de l'armée, et insiste sur le fait que Clarence serait en réalité Charles Smith. S'ensuivent alors des complications.
