The Straitjacket Lottery is a 2004 film from writer/director Doug Karr starring Andy Jones, David Huband, Tara Slone and Joe Cobden. When Boris Durban loses a busload of mental health patients, he’ll resort to any means in order to get them back. This 22 minute comedic short, set in urban Nova Scotia, is a window into the erratic world of mental health and the thin line between idiosyncrasy and insanity.
Synopsis
Boris (Andy Jones), a familiar blue collar worker, is issued his orders for a patient transfer: five mental health patients due at a maximum security facility by eleven o’clock. But when a patient with intense claustrophobia manages to overcome her illness by leading the way for the other patients to escape, Boris is confronted with an empty bus. With the clock ticking, he tries his best to recover the patients, but his attempts are foiled. So, in his compulsion to deliver, Boris decides to fill his quota by enticing some unsuspecting civilians onto the bus.Acteurs

The plot centers on a charismatic radio talk show host, Tom Avery (Bruce Greenwood), and his "mermaid researcher" girlfriend Fay (Emilia Fox). Dave (Hurt) has had some bad luck recently. His wife (McCarthy) lives in Washington, DC, his restaurant, the Auk is not doing good business. Phonse (Jones) helps Dave by making up a story about a rare bird (Tasker’s Sulphureous) sighting which begins to help Dave's business. Le film débute avec un homme, Ryjkin, prisonnier du Cube, essayant de trouver une sortie. Après un certain temps, il atteint une pièce piégée. Des tuyères sortent des murs et l’aspergent d’un liquide. Il confirme par l’odeur et l’absence de goût, qu’il ne s’agit que d’eau. Soulagé, il se met à l’ingérer et commence à se gratter une main, et réalise alors que son corps est en train de se décomposer. Le liquide contenait peut-être une bactérie nécrosante ou une enzyme. Quoi qu’il en soit, son corps se dissout rapidement, ne laissant qu’un tas informe de matière biologique.
