Ajouter à une liste de filmsThe Rowdyman is a comedy film with moralistic overtones, set in Newfoundland. It was written by and starred Gordon Pinsent, a native Newfoundlander. The film became a commercial hit and landed Pinsent a Canadian Film Award for Best Leading Actor.
The film is about Will Cole (Pinsent), a man in his thirties who sees no reason to take life seriously, but his antics bring pain and tragic consequences to his friends and family. He is sexually liberated and has sex with a stranger (Dawn Greenhalgh) on a train and his carelessness at work causes pain for his best friend and co-worker (Frank Converse).
The Rowdyman was filmed in Corner Brook and St. John's, and is regarded as one of the best films made about life in Newfoundland.
It was featured in the Canadian Cinema television series which aired on CBC Television in 1974.

When the Lucasta family in Pennsylvania receives a message that a friend's son Rudolf is coming to town to find a wife, they see a chance to make some money. The friend of the family, Strobel, will send $4,000 to accompany Rudolf. The family decides on trying to "sell" one of their own daughters, Anna, to Rudolf. Mean Joe is a large black man who protects the children. Sister Mary is a nun. Lady Catherine Tisseu is conservative and stiff. Ten-Four knows how to cut a business deal. These are just some of the 92 personalities that Truddi Chase came to refer to as "The Troops". These Troops first came to her rescue while, as a two-year-old, she was systematically sexually assaulted by her sadistic stepfather (Ernie Lively) in a cornfield. In addition to torture and sexual abuse, the stepfather also battered Truddi's mother beyond reclamation and chained a dog in their yard, withholding food and water until the canine finally dies. As the torture and sexual abuse worsen, more Troops arrived to aid Truddi. In young adult life, Truddi marries a loving husband (John Rubinstein), who she meets while working at an advertising agency. Eventually, daughter Page arrives and as Truddi's condition worsens, she seeks therapy to attempt to repair herself and her family. The miniseries begins with Truddi telephoning her therapist (Tom Conti) and telling him she has located her former stepfather in upstate New York and is on her way to kill him.
