The Prince of Thieves is a 1948 film nominally inspired by Alexandre Dumas' 1872 novel Le Prince des voleurs. Produced by Sam Katzman for Columbia Pictures and starring Jon Hall as Robin Hood with stuntwork by Jock Mahoney, the film was shot in the Cinecolor process that features an inability to reproduce the colour green. Sequences were shot reusing several of the sets of Columbia's The Bandit of Sherwood Forest and at Corriganville. Patricia Morison and Adele Jergens co-star.

Synopsis

Messire Allan Claire de retour des croisades où il a côtoyé le Roi Richard est sur le point d'épouser Lady Christabel. Alors qu'il traverse la Forêt de Sherwood avec sa sœur Lady Marian, il est attaqué par Robin des Bois et ses compagnons. Ce dernier reconnaît le noble seigneur et décide de l'aider à délivrer Lady Christabel. En effet, pour des raisons politiques, elle est promise à un autre seigneur avide de pouvoir et de la fortune du père de Christabel.

Inspector Burke of Scotland Yard concentrates all his forces on the capture of London Letter, a notorious criminal leader in the Limehouse district who possesses both Rinty, a splendid dog, and a man-beast monster that ravages and kills at his master's command. Burke almost apprehends the gang in the midst of an attempted theft, but Rinty's uncanny perceptions foil Burke's coup, and Foster is killed for betraying the gang. At the criminal's order, the monster kidnaps Dale and imprisons her. Burke and his men wound London Letter while on his trail, and Rinty finds him dying. In a ferocious battle Rinty kills the monster.
