Synopsis
The film opens with Ruth Earlton and her fiance Dr. Ted Carver arriving at her father's house. She has been told that her father has died, and is returning to find out what will be done with the estate. They arrive on a stormy night, and are greeted by her invalid uncle Robert, the housekeeper Mrs. Krug and the housekeeper's son Hanns.Acteurs

Le grand-père de Peter Foley lui a légué plusieurs centaines de milliers de dollars, à condition qu'il se marie avant minuit, sinon c'est à son oncle qu'ira l'héritage. Peter, qui a de lourdes dettes, projette d'épouser Alice Blake dès que son avion en provenance de Kansas City atterrira et de l'emmener chez Oncle Henry avant minuit. Mais son avion est retardé. Parker, à qui Peter doit de l'argent, insiste pour que sa propre petite amie, Julia, se fasse passer pour la femme de Peter. Tout ne va pas se passer comme prévu, suite à l'intervention de Joe Blair, secrètement amoureux d'Alice, et de "Bull", un policier de la route amoureux de Julia. Malgré ces complications, et d'autres, Peter et Alice seront mariés avant l'heure fatidique.

On a stormy night, a theatrical producer, his secretary, and playwright Prescott Ames are stranded when their car skids off the road and gets stuck. The three take refuge in the nearby home of Dr. Kent, a friend of Ames. One of Kent's patients, who is staying at the house, is acting strangely, and the others in the house tell the newcomers that she is behaving this way because it is the anniversary of her husband's murder. At dinner, the group begins exchanging accusations about the murder, when suddenly the lights go out, and soon afterwards comes the first in a series of mysterious and fearful events.

Il y a ce vieux violon solo de l'orchestre cosmopolite et il est sur le point de réaliser son ambition de longue date d'apparaître comme soliste avec l'orchestre, lorsqu'un accident le prive de l'usage de sa main droite. Ses enfants, apprenant son malheur, l'abandonnent immédiatement sachant qu'il ne leur fournira plus d'argent. Adolph Greig descend de plus en plus bas et devient un mendiant de la rue, trop fier pour demander de l'aide à ses amis et incapable de retrouver son fils ou sa fille. Un soir, debout devant la salle de concert, il sombre dans la rue de faim et de fatigue. Il est pris en charge par deux hommes associés à l'orchestre, Mancini et Rozzini, et ils l'emmènent chez Rozzini et ils développent un plan par lequel ils installeront Greig dans un studio voisin où il pourra donner des cours de violon. Un jeune génie du violon nommé Carl Rupert se présente et, avec l'aide de Mancini et Rozzini, Greig entame le garçon dans une brillante carrière.

In 1795, the cream of English aristocracy attend the wedding of "tradesman's daughter" Margery.
