Synopsis
The story revolves around Joseph Alex I.A.S (Mammootty) and Bharathchandran IPS (Suresh Gopi). A Pakistan military group under Maj. Abu Jalal Rana trespasses Indian waters, targeting New Delhi. The plan, however, is intercepted by Dr. Emma John of Intelligence Wing as she informs it to her senior Padmabhushan Dr. Sudarshan (Nedumudi Venu). Before they can tell the home minister, however, they are killed by two cops, who is joined by a senior police officer, Shankar Ramdas (Devan). Unbeknownst to them, Imran, a photo journalist manages to take pictures of the scene onto his camera. Meanwhile, Kishore Balakrishnan (Vijay Menon), the senior analyst at the agency, sets off to see Swami Chandramoulishwar (Saikumar) at his ashram demanding for the information he passed before. However, Swami was able to suffocate him before pushing him into the Yamuna river. The next day, the bodies of Kishore, Dr. Sudarshan, and Dr. Emma are all found in the river. Since both the bodies of the doctors are seen in an intimate position, the police concludes that Kishore killed the two out of jealousy, and then killed himself right after by drowning himself into the river.Acteurs

Following a tip from a small time lodge owner (Sadique), the ATS conducts a search at the rooms where a group of suspicious youths stayed. Baba Kalyani IPS (Mohanlal), the head of ATS M3 division finds certain vital clues, which he wants to follow after. Upon the permission from Bose Ninan (Venu Nagavally), the IG of police, Baba Kalyani takes arrives in Kochi. He is posted in Law & Order department as undercover with Godwin Joseph (Biju Menon) and a couple of ATS officers assisting him. All his men were newly inducted IPS officers. At Kochi, Kalyani clashes with advocate Ashokan (Murali) and Advocate Madhumitha (Mamta Mohandas), his daughter, who was his ex-girlfriend. A bundle of counterfeit currency is found at a local bank, which was transferred from the account of a charity organization run by Sait Isra Mohammed Haji(Saikumar), a respected businessman. Baba Kalyani reaches out the residence of Isra Mohammed at the same night, Isra denies any knowledge about any hawala dealings in the state. The cash was transferred from the account by Babur (Indrajith Sukumaran), Isra Mohammed's son-in-law, who is also a college lecturer. Babu is king-pin of a terror organization in the state. He along with a bunch of young men had secretly undergone Jihadi training in Pakistan and is planning a massive explosion. But unaware of this, Isra supports him thinking Babu is a normal college lecturer busy with his own life. One morning Isra arrives at Baba Kalyani's residence informing about a group of suspicious young men recently seen at the nearby mosque. He also adds that the Muslyar of the mosque has some doubts regarding their activities. Baba Kalyani, along with Godwin and their group conducts a raid at the house and gathers vital information. The house gets exploded, signing the storage of inflammable explosives. Baba Kalyani, from the prints, maps and photographs concludes that their next target is Palani, a divine pilgrimage center in South India. He arrives at Palani along with his team, where meets up Raghupathi (Siddique), the IG of Tamil Nadu police. With the support of local police, Baba seize the trucks in which the explosives were stored. Baba sends Isra Mohammed as a negotiator to Babu who was hiding along with a group of Jihadis. But unwilling to give up the plan,Babu decides to shoot down Isra. The ATS team conducts a commando operation and shoots down the jihadis aborting their plan.

Roy Alex (K. B. Ganesh Kumar), an investigative journalist is doing a feature on hawala money that is being pumped in from the Middle East through hawala dealings. He is summoned to the house of Rahim Haji (Narendra Prasad), a high profile businessman and politician, who is also a former Member of Parliament. Rahim Haji wants Alex to create a media sabotage through his feature, where by exposing Narendra Shetty (Rajeev), a business tycoon who owns Shetty Corporation. Roy Alex follows Chakrapani, a hawala dealer of Shetty on his bike. Arakkal Kuttikrishnan Nair (Narayanan Nair) loses the civil case against Arackal Madhavanunni (Mammootty), his nephew, and has to give up the ancestral home, which he has been holding illegally for past long years. Patteri Shivaraman Nair (Saikumar), son of Kuttikrishnan Nair, takes it as a presitige issue and decides to finish out Madhavanunni, with the help of Nedungadi (Bheeman Raghu), his trusted lieutenant. Sivaraman Nair has a deep hatred and enmity towards Madhavanuni since childhood and both had involved in several fist fights from then. Nedungadi sends Varoli Abu (Kollam Ajith) to shoot down either Madhavanunni or one among his brothers on their arrival at the house. But the timely intervention of Madhavanunni saves all. Madhavanunni is a self made rich businessman, who owns several properties inside and outside Kerala. After the suicide of his parents, he alone had taken care of his younger brothers Raghu (Siddique), Dasan (Manoj K. Jayan), Appu (Vijayakumar) and Shankaran Kutty (Sudheesh), who all love and respect him than anything on this world. Ramankutty Kaimal (Innocent), their well wisher and old care taker of their property also enjoys a good relationship with Madhavanunni. Appu, at his college, is harassed by the son of Mambaram Bava Haji (N. F. Varghese). With the help of Kattipalli Pappan (Kalabhavan Mani), a criminal, he thrashes him out, but dies accidentally. Appu gets arrested for the murder, but is released on bail. Kattipalli Pappan is arrested for the murder, who while going to jail requests Madhavanuni to take care of his sister Lakshmi (Poornima Mohan), which Madhavanuni accepts. Madhavanunni brings Lakshmi to his home and is treated as a member of their family. Mayambaram Bawa Haji is now looking for a chance to avenge Madhavanunni for his son's death. Patteri Sivaraman lends a helping hand to Bawa Haji. One day Lakshmi is found dead at the pond and again Appu is arrested for it. Upon release from jail, Pappan is back to kill Appu for murdering his sister. But he later comes to know that it is not Appu, but Patteri Shivaraman, behind the crime to frame Appu. The rest of the story is how Madhavanunni saves Appu from jail and revenges back at Shivaraman once and for all.

Hindustan Colony, lying on the suburbs of the city, is a typical Indian city side colony, populated mainly with middle-class and lower-class people who are busy with their own day-to-day issues. The problem of drinking water had been a serious cause, which had been neglected by the ruling class for several years. Goplakrishnan (Jagadish), a resident of the colony is an educated youth, who works as a newspaper boy. Along with his bunch of friends Gopalakrishnan is active in all cultural activities. He is in love with Gowri, daughter of Poomukhath Kurup (Oduvil Unnikrishnan), a corrupted business contractor, who is also his uncle. Jayashankar (Janardhanan), a sincere senior officer with Bangalore police is in direct fight with Surya Devaraja Gowda (Tiger Prabhakar), an underworld don who rules the city along with Chandra Gowda (Babu Antony), his younger brother. His family is too worried about his safety and younger brother Harishankar (Vikram Kennedy)always reminds him of it. Shivappa (Vijayaraghavan), an ex-mafia leader, now leads a retired life in the city suburbs running a stable. Though, retired, he has deep vengeance against Gowda, who had broken his leg, making him permanently disabled. Jayshankar longs his brother Ravishankar to join police. Ravi, currently working for Deccan Chronicle, a leading Bangalore daily, is also attempting for IPS. One day Jayashankar receives an information that a consignment belonging to Gowda is arriving the city. Along with Inspector Narayanan (Maniyan Pillai Raju), he tries to seize the trucks, but is shot killed by the goons. Ravishankar, who has just got a letter confirming his selection for IPS, reaches Jayashankar to inform the news, witnesses the brutal murder of his brother. Ravi reaches out the office of city police commissioner, but is shocked to find the killers there having a small talk with Govindan (M. G. Soman), the city deputy police commissioner. Ravi reacts violently and raise his hands at Govindan, accusing him of siding with Gowda. Govindan orders arrest of Ravi. The court sentences Ravi to 2 years in jail for assaulting a senior police officer on duty. Ravi loses his IPS selection because of his jail term. Upon release he decides to avenge his brother's death. Harishankar introduces Ravi to Felixa Alexandra alias Sandra (Geetha), the daughter of an ex-mafiosi, who was killed by Gowda. Sandra is now running a few business offices of which Harishankar is the manager. Sandra agrees to help Ravi in his mission. She introduces him to Shivappa. Though initially reluctant, he agrees to provide money and weapons in the war against Gowda. The central government nominates confers IPS for Govindan, who is also promoted as the city commissioner. At a function organized to felicitate Govindan, Ravi intrudes along with Hari and insults him publicly. The sudden and violent reaction or Govindan is recorded and passed over to higher authorities, causing the suspension of Govindan. Ravi targets the establishments of Gowda. He along with Shivappa blackmails Nanjappa (Renji Panicker), the home minister and gets Gowda raided. The loss of finance enrages Gowda, who sends Chandra, his brother to finish out Ravishankar. But Chandra is killed by Ravi. Gowda kidnaps Hari and offers deal. Upon the demand of Gowda, Ravi arrives, but along with Shivappa and his mercenary power. Ravishankar successfully saves his brother and finishes off Surya Devaraja Gowda by overrunning cars over him.

A container packed with fake currency is stopped at the check post by Thomas Kurien, an honest senior customs officer along with Rajath Naidu, the city commissioner of police. But he is shocked to find out that Rajat Naidu himself is a part of the gang, who shoots down Kurien to save himself. A few months later, Gyanashekhara Varma (Murali), IG of vigilance makes a controversial press conference, in which he alleges the role of hawala transactions in the sudden rise in the crimes in the state. His statements were directly pointed at seniors in the state cabinet and police department. Varma is summoned by the chief minister in the presence of John Vargeese (Siddique), Rajya Sabha MP, and is warned of serious actions, unless he gives a proper explanation in the next couple of days. Instead of falling in lines of CM, Varma threatens him of further revelations in coming days. The next morning Varma is found dead in his bedroom. John Vargeese, an MP with strong foreign relations is also involved in several hawala dealings taking place in the state including terror activities. Senior police office Chandrashekhar IPS (Suresh Gopi)is appointed to solve the mystery of Varma's death. Chandrasekhar is assisted by Joseph Pothen (Saikumar) and Sudev Sachidanand. In the mean time, Suhara Ahmed (Gopika), a young journalist along with her friend Kishore is found missing. She is believed to have certain sensational information regarding minister Vakkachan (Rajan P. Dev). Chandrasekhar meets Vivekam Ahmed Sahib (Janardhanan), her father, who leads him to the personal computer of Suhara, which sheds light to certain truths. One day, Suhara is found in midst of a forest, critically wounded. Chandrasekhar gets her hospitalized, but her life is targeted many times. Chandrasekhar finds out shocking information regarding the anti-national activities of Vakachan along with John Vargeese from the video tapes of Suhara. Vakkachan is forced to resign from the cabinet and is arrested by Chandrasekhar, who then follows John Vargeese. He follows Vargeese to the sea port, from where he is planning to escape to Turkey. But, just minutes before he leaves coast, Vargeese is stopped by Chandrasekhar, who also finds out that his subordinate Sudev Sachidanand is none other than Musafir, an ISI agent who is also the murderer of Varma and Kishore, the friend of Suhara. Chandrasekhar shoots down both Musafir and John Vargeese.

The city of Kozhikode is victimized by a massive communal riot against the slums, costing the lives of 12 people. Madhu Kumar (Appa Haja), a wildlife photographer, had witnessed a group of criminals transporting explosives through the local forest check post, so he calls up the local police commissioner Shankar (Devan) and passes the information. Shankar asks him to wait for his officers to pick him up. But instead of the police, it was the same goons who came for Madhu, resulting in his death. While having the police to fight against the rioters, the aggressive and belligerent, yet honorable and incorruptible district collector Joseph Alex IAS (Mammootty) is suspicious of Shankar's activities and decides to investigate the case. He is assisted by ASP Prasad (Ganeshan), one of the sincere officers who admires Joseph for his arrogant way of dealing politicians and officials. Also tagging along with Alex is the young assistant district collector Anuradha Mukerji IAS (Vani Viswanath), whose freecare style conflicts against Alex's strict behavior because of her tragic childhood. It later turns out that Anura's behavior was rooted from a horrible experience of when her father continuously cheated on her mother a lot, and that her mother prayed to her to no avail, which is why Anura pretended to be a freak to ease her pain. Upon learning this, Alex decides to warm up to her.

The movie is about the journey of a Malayali youth Anwar (Prithviraj) into the clutches of anti-social elements. The protagonist has another hidden agenda in joining the terrorist outfit. The movie opens with the visuals of Coimbatore bomb blast and the introduction of a special team under Stalin Manimaran (Prakash Raj) who arrests Babu Sait (Lal), a local community leader as a suspect in the bomb blast case. Meanwhile, Anwar a Muslim youth is arrested while passing on with some Hawala money and is sent to jail with Babu Sait and his team. Anwar performs his Namaaz daily five times. He is also fascinated by the terrorist activities of Babu Sait. Babu Sait helps Anwar in getting a bail and lures him to his activities. Anwar is attracted towards Terror acts and even successfully terminates two local drug dealers. Soon he becomes the most trusted and obedient right hand of Babu Sait. Anwar succeeds in planting a bomb in the police Headquarters and is soon introduced to Basheer Bhai (Sampath Raj), who selects him to spearhead another big, but dangerous project of chain blasts. Their plans were to plant a series of chain blasts in Mumbai. Though Anwar goes on with their plans, he has a haunting flashback, which forms the twist in the story. Babu Sait Shows the pictures of the coimbatore blast, which diverts Anwar to his flashback. The Flashback goes like this: Anwar and his family is a family that lives in a rural area of Palakkad. Anwar, an NRI returns from America for his sister's wedding. There he meets his sister's best friend Ayesha (Mamta Mohandas), and falls for her. His family knows about this and proposes to her. She accepts. But when they go out for shopping to Coimbatore, Anwar goes out of the cloth shop for refreshing and a sudden blast happens, killing the whole family except him. Meanwhile, Ayesha is arrested & then Anwar goes out to Stalin for her bail. But he refuses and tell it could not be done owing to lack of proof. He then tells Stalin that he will assist in the discovery of the terrorists, which lead to the present part of the story. Both of them have a secret meeting about the bomb blasts planned by Babu Sait & Co. Stalin brings Ayesha so that they could meet after a long time. When Babu Sait's Men arrives, Stalin tells Anwar to act as if they were having a fight, and one of the Babu Sait's men shoot Stalin, hereby killing, thinking that Anwar was having a fight. But after that, Anwar was given the big responsibility of transporting the deadly terrorists to Mumbai, through a ship containing full of explosives & weapons. Anwar at first made them think that he was on their side, but soon he blasts the ship by firing on it and killing all of the terrorists. Babu Sait becomes furious, that Anwar cheated them. When Anwar says about his parents, their flashbacks, which Babu Sait commits suicide. Anwar then calls the phone of Stalin which is under the police custody. He tells that the mission is over. After that it is narrated that Stalin & his colleague got bravery awards but no one has recognised the near-death battle Anwar has played. The film ends when both Anwar & Ayesha are in a quiet place, living together in a small house. The end-credits rolls with the "Njan" song.
