Tenchi Muyo! In Love 2 - Le Film (1999)

Tenchi Forever!, known in Japan as Tenchi Muyo in Love 2 - Distant Memories (天地無用! in Love 2 - 遙かなる想い, Tenchi Muyō! In Love 2 - Haruka naru omoi), is a 1999 Japanese anime film based upon the popular Tenchi Muyo! series, and was directed by Hiroshi Negishi. It was released in America under the title Tenchi Forever!, possibly because it was to be the last Tenchi Muyo!-branded product created.

The film is the final story arc of the first Tenchi Muyo! television series, known outside of Japan as Tenchi Universe. TMiL2 is also notable for its radically different tone from its source material.

Tenchi Universe excised much of the overt sexuality and violence featured in the OVAs in favor of a more comedy-themed atmosphere. The subsequent movie sequel, 1996's Tenchi Muyo in Love, was, at its core, an action movie. However, Tenchi Muyo in Love 2 is a significant departure from its predecessors; instead of the usual comedy-flavored action, the film is a downbeat, sexual melodrama that studies its characters quite intensely, shedding light on Katsuhito's past, the depth of Ryoko and Ayeka's feelings for Tenchi, and Tenchi's hidden desires.

This film marks the last time Petrea Burchard would voice Ryoko for the English dubbed releases of the Tenchi franchise.

The DVD released in 1999 by Geneon, then known as Pioneer, is one of the few released by that company to have THX-certified audio and video.

Synopsis

Le printemps a réveillé un amour lointain, pour l'amener à sa dernière floraison, un amour qui attire Tenchi à lui et en provoque la soudaine disparition. Tenchi a disparu, avec le vent printanier… Ryoko et Ayeka se mettent immédiatement à sa recherche, mais elles ne le retrouvent que six mois plus tard, à Tokyo. Le jeune homme a désormais un aspect bien plus adulte, il a oublié son passé et vit en compagnie d'une mystérieuse femme nommée Haruna…
