Ajouter à une liste de filmsSwami Vivekananda est un film biographique Indien de 1998 réalisé par G. V. Iyer et produit par T. Subbarami Reddy. Il a fallu 11 ans à Iyer pour faire le travail de recherche nécessaire pour le film et d'en écrire le scénario.
Le film met en vedette Sarvadaman D. Banerjee dans le rôle de Swami Vivekananda – le moine hindou du XIXe siècle – et Mithun Chakraborty dans le rôle de Ramakrishna, son gourou. Même si le film a été achevé et présenté pour les prix nationaux de 1995, le film n'a été diffusé que le 12 juin 1998. Le film a été présenté pour la première fois sur Doordarshan – le radiodiffuseur du service public indien – le 15 août 1998, jour de l'indépendance du pays.
Le film a reçu des critiques mitigées, principalement négatives, de la part des critiques. Dans ce film, Mithun Chakraborty a été très apprécié et a remporté son troisième Prix national du film.
Synopsis
Le film présente principalement les événements de la vie de Vivekananda de sa naissance à 1897, quand il retourne en Inde de l'Ouest. Le film commence avec la naissance de Narendranath Datta (nom pré-monastique de Swami Vivekananda) et montre l'entourage de la famille Datta célébrant l'événement. Puis, vient la scène où Narendranath voit son père Vishwanath Datta donner de l'argent, des vêtements et de la nourriture à des personnes pauvres et en détresse. Voyant cela, le jeune Narendranath demande à son père de lui donner aussi quelque chose et son père lui demande d'aller regarder dans le miroir et de trouver ce qu'il lui avait déjà donné. Suivant la suggestion de son père, Narendranath se rend dans la pièce et voit sa propre image.Acteurs

The story is set around 1580, in the time of King Akbar. Biramdev (Dr Shreeram Lagoo) is the king of Medta, a province in Rajasthan. He has two daughters, Meera (Hema Malini) and Krishna (Vidya Sinha) and a son, Jaimal (Dinesh Thakur). Meera is in deep emotional love with Lord Krishna, so much so that she considers Lord Krishna to be her husband. Akbar (Amjad Khan) is becoming stronger day by day and hence other small provinces are trying to join against him. Medta, in one such political agreement, decides to join hands with Raja Vikramajit (Shammi Kapoor). As a part of this agreement Meera is married (against her wish) to Vikramajit's son, Rana Bhojraj (Vinod Khanna). But even after getting married her love for Lord Krishna remains the same and she follows her own ideals and way of living which are not very acceptable to Bhojraj and his family. One thing leads to another and one day Meera is declared as an outcast and traitor who failed to play a wife's duties towards her husband, a bride's duties towards her family, and a woman's duties towards society. She is jailed and a public trial is ordered to decide her fate. But Meera is still unshakable and her spirituality keeps her going. She is not even afraid of death. Finally she is given a death sentence and is ordered to drink a cup of venom in front of the public.

The film starts with the penance of Sage Bhadra who becomes a hill with the blessings of Lord Rama. In later centuries, Dammakka, the tribal lady and worshiper of Lord Rama unearths and looks after the idols of Rama on the hill and awaits someone who can construct a temple there. On the other hand, Gopanna and his cousin Kamala fall in love and marry after a small conflict with their parents. After the marriage, Tanisha, the emperor of Golconda, with the recommendation of Akkanna and Madanna (the uncles of Gopanna), appoints Gopanna as Tehsildar of Husnabad. Thus, a Muslim who had been the Tehsildar to the place is dethroned for the sake of Gopanna. That ignites disgust among a few groups who attempt to murder Gopanna. However, Dammakka saves him while he lies unconscious on the bank of Godavari. She shows him the place of Bhadragiri and Gopanna becomes an ardent devotee of Rama. After a series of incidents, he decides to construct the Rama Mandir on the hill. He collects funds from people and with the help of Kabirdas, his guru, completes the construction of the temple. Lord Rama, Lakshmana, Seetha and Anjaneya live in invisible forms in the place during the construction. They keep on guarding Gopanna until he accomplishes his mission. Thus, with immense bhakti on Lord Rama, Gopanna becomes Ramadasu.

Vidhyadhari is the daughter of Vijayavarman, the king of Thejavathi. His minister wants the princess to marry his son but she refuses. Annoyed, the minister sets out to find another potential husband for Vidhyadhari. In the forest, the minister finds an illiterate cowman sitting in a tree and cutting into the branch on which he is sitting. The minister persuades the cowman to come to the palace and has Vidhyadhari marry him. When Vidhyadhari realises she has been cheated and is married to a farmhand, she prays to the goddess Kali for a remedy. Kali appears before her, names her husband "Kalidas" and endows him with phenomenal literary talents.
