After a rough divorce, farmer Stephen Landis (Tom Selleck) lives a normal life living on his ranch in Idaho with his girlfriend Leah (Anna Gunn) and her daughter, Roxanne (Tegan Moss). But life once again gets complicated for Stephen when his daughter Dulcie (Maggie Grace) comes for a summer visit after having a fight with her mother (Wendy Crewson). Stephen's absence as a father and failed marriage with Angela left Dulcie in a rebellious state as a troubled teenager. Stephen's ex-wife attempts to warn him of their daughter's disruptive behaviors, but combined with his feelings of guilt, the relationship threatens to ruin his present relationship and life with Leah. Dulcie and her father try to begin to heal their problems, but the damage may be too great to resolve and jeopardizes the chance of a bright future for either of them.

A young man must deal with several generations of madness and familial intrigue in this screen adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Timothy Findley. Charlie, meanwhile, has had affairs with a number of women but has never settled down with anyone; working as an events coordinator at a resort hotel, Charlie becomes infatuated with Alex Lamont (Sarah Strange), the singer in a dance band Charlie has booked into the ballroom. Lily urges her son to get married and raise a family, but Charlie isn't so sure he's ready for a lifetime commitment, and Alex becomes frustrated by Charlie's inability to take their relationship seriously. Meanwhile, Ede and Frederick have decided that Lily needs to be permanently committed to an institution; Charlie insists that they send her to a comfortable private facility, but then discovers that a mysterious benefactor has been supporting Lily for years, and Ede and Frederick have decided if Lily is to be in a private institution, then the generous stranger must be the one who pays for it. Surprisingly, The Piano Man's Daughter was co-produced by noted comic actress Whoopi Goldberg.

Nous sommes en octobre 1998, dans l'état du Wyoming. Matthew Shepard, 21 ans, passe confortablement la soirée en compagnie d'amis gays dans un pub. Peu après leur départ, alors qu'il reste seul à finir sa soirée, deux inconnus l'abordent et lui demandent s'il est homosexuel. Après avoir répondu par l'affirmative, les deux hommes se mettent à draguer l'étudiant, lequel accepte de les suivre dans leur voiture. Mais ce jeu de séduction s'avère être en réalité un piège machiavélique. En effet, les deux compères kidnappent leur proie et l'entraînent dans un sous-bois. Ils l'attachent ensuite à une barrière, le passent à tabac, lui fracassent le crâne et s'enfuient, le laissant pour mort. L'étudiant sera retrouvé par le plus grand des hasards par un jogger, après 18 heures d'abandon dans le froid. Transporté d'urgence à l'hôpital, il restera cinq jours dans le coma avant de succomber à ses blessures.

The film opens with a brown station wagon driving recklessly around an amusement park parking lot. When the car stops, four teenagers exit the vehicle: Stick (Brendan Fletcher), Darren (Kett Turton), Chloe (Crystal Buble), and Sanj (Sean Armstrong). Sanj makes a comment about how his driving caused no damage to the car, at which point Darren begins kicking the grill in. Stick and Sanj soon follow in the act, laughing furiously as they do so. After damaging the car, Darren opens the rear hatchback to let out his younger teen brother, Justin (Brent Glenen). The group walks through the parking lot, speaking of their sexual experiences. Stick begins to pick on Justin, who seems shy and quiet, claiming that he has told the group counselor of their misbehavings in the past.
