It was written by the famous writing duo Salim-Javed and produced by Mushir-Riaz. Shakti was notable for being the first and only film to feature veteran actors Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan together on screen. Considered to be one of the greatest films in the history of Indian cinema, it went on to win several Filmfare awards among which were Best Film and Best Actor which was awarded to Dilip Kumar.The movie had a similar storyline as that of the 1974 Tamil movie Thanga Pathakkam.
Synopsis
An ex-cop Ashwini Kumar learns that his grandson Anil Kapoor wants to follow his footsteps. Kumar thinks that his grandson is taking this decision in a flow of emotions, without taking into consideration its implications. To warn his grandson about the dangers and pitfalls of the profession, Kumar decides to tell his own story. How the grandson makes his decision that would affect his whole life is the crux of the story.Acteurs

Inspector Vijay Verma (Amitabh Bachchan) is a very lonely cop whose only family is a younger brother Ajay Verma (Aditya Pancholi) who is studying abroad. He also has two good friends Shekhar (Jackie Shroff) and Seema (Meenakshi Seshadri). One day when he arrests the criminal mastermind Tony Briganza (Keith Stevenson), he is shocked when Tony is released from police custody because his corrupt lawyer shows the court a videotape showing him at a completely different place so therefore he couldn't have committed the crime. For years an aging Rukmini Bai (Shabana Azmi) has been the Madame of a brothel in Hyderabad, India. One day she gets the news that she now has a new landlord in Mr. Gupta (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), whose daughter is to marry the mayor's son Sushil, shortly. Led by City Councillor, Shantidevi, the people in this town demand that this brothel be moved elsewhere, preferably on the outskirts of the town, and they do succeed, compelling Rukmini to move with her women to their new location, which happens to be near the Dargah of Baba Karak Shah. Ironically, this attracts a lot of people, and the patronage to Rukmini's bordello increases. Then complications set in when Sushil refuses to marry his father's choice, childlike Malti, and wants to marry Zeenat (Smita Patil) - a prostitute, not entirely by choice and seeking for a better existence, who resides with Rukmini.

Le docteur Rao (Girish Karnad), un vétérinaire, vient fonder une coopérative laitière dans un village où les producteurs de lait sont en majorité des dalits (intouchables). Il doit faire face à Mishraji (Amrish Puri), qui achète à bas prix le lait de tous les villageois, mais aussi au chef du village (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) qui souhaite utiliser la coopérative naissante pour renforcer son pouvoir. Rao s'aperçoit vite qu'il a besoin du soutien de la population dalit pour réussir son entreprise. Bindu (Smita Patil), une femme de caractère appartenant à cette communauté, sympathise avec lui et accepte d'y participer, entrainant avec elle les autres femmes. Mais Bhola, dont la forte personnalité fait le leader de la communauté, reste sur ses gardes. Sa méfiance s'aggrave lorsqu'il découvre qu'un des associés de Rao a une aventure avec une femme de sa caste. Lorsque Rao finit par convaincre Bhola, l'ensemble du village se rallie à sa cause et des élections sont organisées pour désigner le président de la coopérative. Le vainqueur est un dalit. Mais le chef du village n'accepte pas cette remise en cause de son pouvoir. Il trouve un allié en la personne de Mishraji dont l'entreprise est menacée par le développement de la coopérative. Mishraji parvient à convaincre Bindu, en grande difficulté financière, de prétendre que Rao l'a séduite. Rao et son équipe doivent quitter le village, mais la coopérative ne périclite pas pour autant : les producteurs de lait continuent son œuvre.
