Synopsis
In 1969 New York City, two hippies, Fred Wook (Eric Roberts) and Jesus Monteya (Cheech Marin), flee the US to avoid arrest by the FBI and hide out in the jungles of Central America. Fred is an idealist, working on an underground newspaper with his friend Sammy (Robert Carradine), while Jesus is a stoner whose brain has been fried after being given huge amounts of LSD by researchers (the theory being that acid and appropriate visual stimulation can turn pacifist hippies into committed soldiers; Jesus proves their failure by wishing them 'peace' as he leaves the lab.) The two flee the inner-city commune they are living in, leaving behind Sammy who feels it is important that he keep writing and publishing their message, and Fred's girlfriend, artist Petra (Julie Hagerty).Acteurs

Toni est secrètement amoureuse de son meilleur ami Michael, tandis que lui est épris de Déborah, la fille la plus populaire du lycée. À travers une lettre anonyme, Toni décide de lui déclarer sa flamme. La recevant, Michael est persuadé qu'elle provient de Déborah et décide de lui répondre tout en demandant à Toni de jouer les entremetteuses. Elle accepte et va même jusqu'à réécrire secrètement les lettres les jugeant trop ringardes. Alors que Déborah et Michael finissent par se rencontrer, l'une des lettres enflammées tombe entre les mains de Lou, le père de Déborah. Hors de lui, il pense immédiatement que sa femme Elizabeth a un amant et que celui-ci n'est autre que George, le père de Michael. Une discorde va alors naître entre les deux familles.

Un éminent psychiatre, le Dr Léo Marvin, est sur le point de partir en vacances en famille. Mais un de ses collègues lui envoie alors un patient, Bob Wiley, qui accumule un nombre impressionnant de névroses et a épuisé une vingtaine de praticiens. Le Dr Marvin le reçoit un jour avant son départ pour le lac winnipessoki. Wiley, persuadé que ce médecin sera son sauveur, le suit jusque dans sa maison au bord du lac et s’y installe chez les Gudman, des résidents qui en veulent au docteur car il a acheté la maison de leur rêve. Il héberge Bob , le reste de la famille du psychiatre le trouvant fort sympathique. Il va devenir extrêmement difficile au Dr Marvin – qui peu à peu sombre dans un délire de persécution – de l’en déloger.

Australian heiress Alexandra Hobart's (Emma Samms) father has disapproved of every boyfriend she has brought home to meet him, including her burly, life-of-the-party fiance, Bruce (Vernon Wells). After a disastrous birthday party, Alexandra decides to challenge her father (Terence Cooper) with the worst boyfriend she can find. She hires a down-on-his luck waiter from a Mexican restaurant in Sydney, Australia named Carlos (Cheech Marin) to masquerade as her new boyfriend to persuade her father into allowing her to marry Bruce. Needing the money to save the failing restaurant, Carlos agrees to the ruse; acting loud, belligerent and obnoxious, shocking everyone in the Hobart household and their high-society friends at a party with his crude behavior, warranting unwanted attention from Alex's eccentric cousin, Maggie (Jeanette Cronin) in the process. After a while however Alex discovers that in spite of his rather crass and unrefined ways Carlos is actually a very caring and sensitive person and she even finds herself falling for him. Alex's father, however, doesn't buy the act, and hires a detective to photograph Bruce and Alex's best friend, Dominique (Carole Davis) in a compromising position. Carlos gets wind of the infidelity and attepting to save Alexandra from being hurt ends up assaulted by Bruce. Alex outs Bruce and Dominique at a party before racing to the airport to mend fences with Carlos. Hoping she's not too late, Alex has the plane called back to the airport by her father. Realizing how noble Carlos is, Mr Hobart invests in Carlos' restaurant thereby saving it from closing.
