Ajouter à une liste de films'Pukar' (English: Call) is a Hindi drama filmdirected by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Namrata Shirodkar, Danny Denzongpa and Om Puri. The film was critically acclaimed but did only average at box office. It won two National Film Awards, including the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration and the National Film Award for Best Actor for Anil Kapoor's performance.
Pukar was a considered a milestone for Indian cinema in action genre. Critics widely praised the movie's plot and action scenes, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit for their outstanding performances. However the movie entered tough competition against Vaastav: The Reality and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which were also praised and dominated the boxoffice and awards. Critics also acclaimed A.R Rahman musical score. Pukar is also considered a neo-noir and political thriller movie. Many critics considered Pukar among or the best action movie in Indian cinema.

Synopsis
Major Jaidev Rajvansh (Anil Kapoor) and his fellow officer manage to rescue a leading politician as well as capture his kidnapper, Abhrush (Danny Denzongpa). The terrorist has been wanted for years and he is finally captured by the two officers. Jai returns to a joyous welcome and is declared a national hero. He takes a break from the army and returns to his hometown. There he meets his childhood friend Anjali (Madhuri Dixit) who has always harboured love for Jai. Anjali wants to make most of Jai's holiday and tries to get close to him and spend time with him as much as she can.Acteurs

The story begins with Col. Krishnakant and his ten men who were sacked from the Indian army as they failed in the China Gate mission. After witnessing the brutal slaying of her Forest Officer father, Sunder Rajan, at the hands of dreaded dacoit Jageera, Sandhya goes to Col. and asks for his assistance in bringing an end to Jageera's rule in the Devdurg region. Krishnakant agrees to assist her and summons ten of his fellow officers and subordinates to assist him in this mission. They assemble at Devdurg with the necessary ammunitions and arms to combat Jageera, not realizing that Jageera has influence over the local police detachment, who will prevent Krishnakant and his men to possess any guns and weapons. This does not deter the men, and they continue to stay on in Devdurg and gain the confidence of the villagers. What the villagers do not know that Krishnakant and his men had all been dishonorably discharged from the army for cowardice and retreating when attacked by the enemy.

Vaidehi (Manisha Koirala) est venue vivre à New York avec Raghu (Jackie Shroff), mari violent qui la trompe allègrement et l'encourage à faire de même. Pendant ce temps, celui-ci apprend qu'un récent accident l'a rendu stérile et que sa femme est enceinte. D'un cynisme sans égal, il l'appelle et présente ses excuses, projetant en réalité de garder l'enfant et de se « débarrasser » de Vaidehi. Alors que cette dernière est sur le point de tomber dans le piège et de le rejoindre, elle est informée des sombres projets de son époux, qui a déjà envoyé sur place deux de ses hommes de main pour s'assurer de son retour. Vaihedi parvient néanmoins à se soustraire à leur surveillance et à s'enfuir. N'ayant désormais plus nulle part où aller l'esprit tranquille, elle se réfugie dans le premier train. Sur sa route, elle croise plusieurs personnages.

Kashi (Sunny Deol) is a kind-hearted wrestler and the dutiful son of Shambhu Nath (Amrish Puri) living in Banaras. Shambhu Nath who was a freedom fighter awarded with Tambra Patra, is an honourable and respectable man in town. Kashi comes to Mumbai with his father for his medical treatment of throat and stays with his brother Shiv Nath (K. K. Raina). Kashi meets Gauri (Meenakshi Seshadri) and starts liking her. He learns that the colony is being terrorized by a tyrannical gangster named Katya (Danny Denzongpa) along with his other six brothers. Before Kashi's arrival, a resident named Sachdev (Om Puri) tries to initiate revolt against Katya but gets ruthlessly killed by him, thereby making Malti (Ila Arun), wife of Sachdev, go mad. Katya and his brothers become enemy with Kashi when he beats up their goons when they were beating up Malti. Shambhu Nath is later diagnosed with throat cancer and has only a few days to live.

The story is based on the concept of karma and bad deeds. Viren Sahai (Amitabh Bachchan), is an underworld don who rules over India. His son Abhir (Sushant Singh) is spoilt and believes he can do anything due to his father's power. When Viren's enemy Khan (Kader Khan) attacks Abhir, Viren demands revenge. Viren receives full proof information that Khan will be hidden at an local cinema theater on an particular date. The plot then moves onto the life of a simple cook, Shekhar Bhatia (Akshay Kumar) who is married to Dr. Kavita (Bhumika Chawla). Shekhar lives with his parents, wife and his younger brother Aryan (Aryeman Ramsay). When Aryan runs away from home, Shekhar searches the whole city to find him. During his search, he witnesses Viren attacking the cinema theater in which Khan is hidden, and decides to help the innocent people in the cinema.
