Potugadu (English: Heroic) is a Telugu film directed by Pavan Wadeyar. It is a remake of the Kannada film Govindaya Namaha which was also directed by Pavan Wadeyar. It is produced by Sirisha and Sridhar under Ramalakshmi Cine Creations banner. The film has four heroines, Sakshi Chowdhary, Simran Kaur Mundi, Rachel and Anupriya. Achu has scored the music, and two tunes from the Kannada film - including the sensational hit Pyarge Aagbittaite - have been used in the Telugu version. The shooting was wrapped up in a single extensive schedule and the post-production work was simultaneously in progress. Reportedly Potugadu was going to be the biggest movie in terms of budget in Manoj's career. The film released on 13 September 2013 and was declared a 'Hit' at the Box office.

Synopsis

Govinda Naama Sastry (Manoj Manchu) is a young man who decides to commit suicide. He goes to a lonely spot and decides to have one last drink. At about the same time, Venkata Rathnam (Posani Krishna Murali) also comes to the same spot to commit suicide. The two sit down for a chat to find out more about their respective life stories.

Kiran (Akaash) and Aishwarya (Rekha Vedavyas) have been neighbours for 20 years in Hyderabad. They study in the same college and immensely hate each other. Subrahmanyam (Pawan Kalyan), the youngest son of a family is a wastrel and a ladies man. Sitarama Rao alias Seeta (Nagarjuna Akkineni) is a struggling unemployed youth who arrives in Hyderabad to meet his sister (Jhansi) and brother-in-law (Tanikella Bharani), his father has been falsely implicated in a bank fraud and wants to sell his ancestral property to pay towards the litigation, for that he needs his sister's approval but is rebuked and banished by his brother-in-law. Disillusioned, Seeta seeks out his old school mate Tirupathi (Brahmaji), who is working in a fruit juice vending shop in Hyderabad. Tirupathi himself is a hapless uneducated youth working for his uncle (Rallapalli), who is a treacherous money lender, with a hope to marry his daughter Bangari (Priya). They plan to open a cool drink shop but need 1.25 lakh Rupees to rent a shop as a prerequisite to getting a bank loan. With no other way in sight, the two of them swindle Tirupathi's uncle out of 1.25 lakh Rupees. Seeta then tries to get the loan sanctioned, but he is rebuffed by a new Bank manager (M. S. Narayana) who had taken charge by then.

Prem (Gopichand) lives with his friends in the city. His dream is to own a bike, and with some help from his rural agriculturist father (L.B. Sriram), he does get it. However, on the first night itself it gets punctured, and because there is no mechanic around so late, Prem decides to park it in a nearby house for the night. The door is opened by a very pretty girl Soumya (Sneha), and the smitten and dumbstruck Prem manages to explain his predicament and leaves the bike and keys. The next morning when he goes to pick up the bike, he doesn't find it, and the girl and her father (Chandramohan) completely deny any knowledge. Our man understandably gets riled and creates a ruckus, but to no avail. The story progresses and a thief is caught who admits to having burgled the house in question that night. But the father continues to stoutly deny any such happening. This obviously creates some confusion, and then the burglar reveals that he also raped the daughter. There has to be a villain somewhere - enter wicked son-in-law Kailash (P. Ravi Shankar), who is the husband of the elder daughter.

Meanwhile, Raghu's college sweetheart, Gita (Bhanupriya) is dying and she wants to spend her last days with him. She contacts him after five years and they begin meeting secretly. Shriram finds out about this and tries to keep the family secrets, take the blame for everyone's shortcomings and becomes the family scapegoat and his father's favorite whipping boy. The rest of the film examines whether or not Raghu is finally vindicated in the eyes of his family.
