Dans ce film filmé et sorti en 1961 (et non une production de 1962), un condamné évadé retourne en ville et commence un règne de terreur. Le Dr Dean Knudtson, son épouse Janice, autrefois mariée à l'assassin, et Jeff Baxley, dont le témoignage a été envoyé à l'origine en prison, sont marqués pour la mort. Le shérif Charles Morton et son adjoint Sam Freed dirigent un détachement qui traque le tueur dans le désert.
