Synopsis
Joey comes home after nearly a decade of living in the States. With Joey back, the four friends find themselves complete again—they reminisce on the good old times, marvel at the changes in each other’s lives. Indeed, a lot of things may have changed through the years, but some things remain constant. The ever-effervescent Kathy gives up on her girlhood dream of becoming a singer—something which her sparklingly vivacious teenage daughter, Bernadette, seems to have inherited. Sylvia brings up her son Bobby (Marvin Agustin) in ways that are more liberal, than most, ironically recoils at her grown son’s only flaw: his infertility. Maritess, a widow, contends with the complexities of being a mother to independent, self-asserting young adults: Guia, who chooses to remain single despite her pregnancy; Bryan, who’s gay and proud of it; and Levi, whose floater’s ways hint at a yearning for something beyond what his present life can offer. Joey’s stay in the States changes her a great deal; the untamed child of twenty years ago has matured into a woman who has come to embrace humanity and life. But pain and death may be realities that Joey has yet to learn to accept---because of her mother Maggie, who is fighting a losing battle with cancer, and the main reason why she has come home. Bernadette persistently courts Bryan despite his openly gay orientation, only to have her heart broken by the futility of her feelings Guia staunchly refuses to get back together with the father of her child in her desire to assert her self-sufficiency, but later realizes that needing people is not necessarily a sign of weakness. Bobby and wife Miriam are torn between religion and science as they try to find a solution to their childlessness, while Levi finds love in the personification of Joey—the woman who loves the father he never got to know. As the four women try to reconcile past with present to cope with the changing times, the children come to terms with themselves, with the people they love, and with life on the whole.Acteurs

Ahmad (Cesar Montano) belongs to the Moro people people. While many of his kind are bent on fighting, thinking that Mindanao is only for the Muslims, Ahmad prefers to live a simple and peaceful life. Fredo (Cesar Montano) is a fisherman who has endured more than his share of hardship in life; his wife and child both perished in a boating accident, and today Fredo approaches each trip to the sea with the angry determination of a man out for revenge. Fredo commands a crew of young people from poor families as he takes his rattletrap ship into the ocean in search of fish that live along the reefs, snaring catch with an illegal netting system. Not all of Fredo's youthful sailors are willing to put up with his abusive arrogance, however, and even his father Dado (Pen Medina) and close friend Botong (Jhong Hilario) have grown weary of Fredo's tirades. Fredo's body is beginning to betray him as well, and as he and his crew damage the sea's reef beds in search of fish, no one is certain how much longer he will be able to continue.

The movie revolves around a young, contemporary, rebellious woman Vangie Cruz (Ina Feleo), whose family life and career as a video editor are disrupted when her only brother, a newly ordained priest, Fr. Johnny (Marvin Agustin), is diagnosed of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. As a sibling, Vangie is called upon to be a donor for Fr. Johnny's bone marrow transplant. At first, Vangie is very reluctant. She has a clinical phobia for medical procedures, the reasons for which are rooted in an attempted, but botched, abortion which she suffered through many years earlier and has since been troubled about. Her life is saved by Dr. Joey Lucas (Jomari Yllana) with whom she has a love child, and whom she eventually marries. Vangie's dysfunctional family gravitates around Fr. Johnny, and in their struggle to cope with his illness, find themselves drawn to Ina, begging for her intercession. Their prayers are answered, not so much by way of a miraculous cure for Fr. Johnny, but by the grace of conversion, of love, of forgiveness, reconciliation, and hope.

Tere Sanchez (Cherry Pie Picache) is an accountant who is in her early forties, single, and not especially happy about it. Raul (Paolo Montalban) is a good-looking womaniser who prefers to date Caucasians, and lacks a certain amount of emotional maturity. And Marissa (Dina Bonnevie) is on the surface a well-to-do social butterfly; however, deep inside she's woefully insecure, and is afraid to confront her boyfriend Sam (Randy Becker) about his constant infidelity. Meanwhile, Lorna confesses that while she's married to a wealthy man in Manila, she's terribly unhappy, and is considering staying in America as an illegal alien.

Malen (Angelica Panganiban) is the daughter of Chayong (Hilda Koronel), a widowed intercessor at Quiapo Church in Manila. Selling religious charms as a way of meeting men, Malen falls for Mike (Jericho Rosales), a gigolo and hustler. Mike hustles both for his own survival and that of his son, but also because "he knows essentially he's just strong enough and unscrupulous enough" to do so. After her mother takes umbrage at Malen's assumed promiscuity, she moves out of Chayong's house and stays with Mike. When her mother then dies of a heart attack, Malen feels guilt and becomes an intercessor despite having previously sworn the profession off.
