Merchants of Doubt is a 2014 American documentary film directed by Robert Kenner that was "inspired by" the 2010 book of the same name by Naomi Oreskes and Erik M. Conway. The film traces the use of public relations tactics that were originally developed by the tobacco industry to protect their business from research indicating health risks from smoking. The most prominent of these tactics is the cultivation of scientists and others who successfully cast doubt on the scientific results. Using a professional magician, the film explores the analogy between these tactics and the methods used by magicians to distract their audiences from observing how illusions are performed. For the tobacco industry, the tactics successfully delayed government regulation until long after the establishment of scientific consensus about the health risks from smoking. As its second example, the film describes how manufacturers of flame retardants worked to protect their sales after toxic effects of the retardants were discovered. The central concern of the film is the ongoing use of these tactics to forestall governmental action to regulate greenhouse gas emissions in response to the risk of global climate change.

Le film s’inspire de l’essai Fast Food Nation d’Eric Schlosser. Il traite de la production de nourriture à grande échelle aux États-Unis et conclut que la viande et les légumes produits par ce type d’industrie sont mauvais pour la santé et pour l’environnement malgré les messages et l'imagerie présents sur les emballages des aliments. Pour cela l'enquête s'attache sur l'élevage industriel de bovins et d'ovins en interrogeant des éleveurs enchaînés à leurs emprunts dans le but de suivre le cahier des charges des grandes firmes agroalimentaires comme Cargill ou Smithfield Foods ainsi que sur le rôle prépondérant du maïs la plupart du temps maïs génétiquement modifié dans la composition de la quasi-totalité des produits vendus en supermarché aux Etats-Unis et ailleurs dans le monde. Le témoignage d'une mère devenue défenseuse des droits des consommateurs à la suite du décès accidentel de son fils, Kevin Kowalcyk, empoisonné par la bactérie Escherichia coli après avoir mangé un hamburger apporte un argument supplémentaire. Cette famille a obtenu gain de cause avec l'adoption de la Kevin's Law.

The Spanish film crew led by Carlos Rodriguez is following the life stories of three children - Lidia Pidvalna, Anastasia Pavlenko, and Andriy Kovalchuk - whose lives were drastically changed after an explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station on April 26, 1986. Through the documentary, the children and their families "living perilously close to the exclusion zone around the destroyed station recount their fears, dreams, fantasies, and hopes for the future." Each child holds a "Chernobyl certificate" which bestows access to government grants and aid and is a gruesome reminder of their existential reality.

Surviving the Tsunami brings together social, environmental, and personal perspectives of the national catastrophe of the Fukushima nuclear meltdown. In the documentary, Kyoko Miyake travels back to her hometown in Namie, Fukushima, to revisit her old life and assess the trauma still lingering from the disaster. She revisits Namie, her mother's hometown and meets the people who depended on the success of the nuclear plant for their livelihood. The film also follows Bunsei Watanabe and Kyoko Miyake's Aunt Kuniko, two people who hope for the rejuvenation of Namie, despite the disaster that has occurred. Despite having lost family, friends, and jobs due to the meltdown and subsequent fear of the contamination zone, these two individuals are determined to rebuild their towns and neighborhoods and bring back the sense of community they once had. The film follows the residents of Namie, with emphasis on the experiences of Aunt Kuniko, as they come to terms with the reality of living in or near the "radiation zone" left in the wake the plant's nuclear meltdown. Surviving the Tsunami offers a different perspective on Japanese culture, national identity, human adaption, and global nuclear energy and proliferation.
