Mahaanta is a 1997 Bollywood film directed by Afzal Khan and starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Jeetendra in pivotal roles.

Synopsis

Young Vijay studies in Good Shepherd High School, lives a wealthy lifestyle in a small scenic town along with his uncle, who is the Inspector General of Police in Bombay, and has a close friend in Raj Malhotra. When both mature, Vijay gets married, while Raj marries Shanti. On his uncle's insistence, Vijay departs to live in Bombay, where he eventually becomes the Police Commissioner. Subsequently Raj, Shanti, and Raj's brother, Sanjay, also re-locate to Bombay, where they are united with Vijay. Then Sanjay falls in love with Jenny and both want to get married much to the chagrin of Mahesh, who wants to marry her at any and all costs. Mahesh is the only son of wealthy and influential Kedar, who manages to convince Edward that it will be Jenny's and Sanjay's best interest if Jenny weds Mahesh. The marriage is arranged, but on that very day, Sanjay steps in, humiliates Kedar, and marries Jenny. That night Sanjay is arrested by none other than Vijay himself and placed in a cell. The next morning he is released and returns home to find that his brother and Bhabhi are both dead. Sanjay swears to avenge their death as well as find out why Vijay betrayed Raj, and arrested him on his wedding night.

Ballu (Sanjay Dutt), est un audacieux séduisant criminel recherché pour une multitude de crimes. À mesure que le film progresse, Ballu reprend contact avec ses anciens complices et une série de flash-back révèle comment ceux-ci l'ont entraîné dans une vie criminelle en faisant le malheur de sa famille.

Dr.Sandeep Kumar (Jeetendra), Inspector Ranjith (Rajinikanth) & Advocate Prakash (Rishi Kapoor) are thickest, best & childhood friends, the three of them grew up together because Prakash is often and Ranjith’s father Daga (Amrish Puri) is a smuggler who left him alone because of his honesty and took his mother & sister with him so Sandeep’s parents (Pran & Shavukar Janaki) brought them up. Ranjith is an honest police officer, Sandeep is a well known doctor in the city, Prakash is a leading criminal lawyer three of them has always clash with Daga who became a big gangster and doesn’t know that Ranjith is his son. Ranjith & Prakash always carrels with Sandeep because the only problem with Sandeep is he is very short temper, he cannot withstand himself if somebody does any injustice to anyone. One day Daga’s gangster (Guru Bachan) kidnaps and rapes Ranjith’s wife Lata (Poonam Dhillon) who is pregnant which is seen by Sandeep and he bits him very hard and takes promise from Lata that she does not reveal this secret. Daga takes advantage of this he kills the gangster and traps Sandeep in that case. Ranjith arrests Sandeep and Prakash takes up the case but Sandeep doesn’t reveal the truth to protect Lata so Prakash makes a story that Sandeep has made the crime to protect his wife to save him, he brings a girl Rekha (Bhanu Priya) as Sandeep’s wife whom Sandeep has protected from few gangsters once a while. Meanwhile Sandeep loves and really marries Rekha and Prakash also loves a thief Shanthi (Kimi Katkar) whose brother is killed by Daga and for whom she is under search. At the end Ranjith comes know the truth, he accepts Lata even though she got raped and he recognizes Daga is his father and Rekha is his sister whom Daga left in streets in the childhood. Finally Sandeep, Ranjith & Prakash join together and defeat Daga.

Searching for work, Ram Kumar Singh (Jeetendra), comes to Bombay. But on arrival, his wallet and other belongings are stolen. Le film Kalank se situe en 1945 dans une Inde pré-indépendante, où le monde solennel, élitiste et opulent de la famille Chaudhry, et celui de Hira Mandi, le quartier pauvre, sauvage, mystérieux et musical de la ville, s’affrontent lorsque Roop Chaudhry rencontre Zafar, forgeron casse-cou, bagarreur et coureur de jupons. Roop tombe éperdument amoureuse de Zafar qui, bien que s’étant rapproché d’elle pour servir sa vengeance, finit, sans vouloir l’admettre, par partager ses sentiments. Ils se retrouvent pris sur le champ de bataille de l'amour pendant que toute la ville est à feu et à sang. La question est de savoir si cet amour fou s’éteindra dans le rouge de la violence ou s’épanouira dans celui de l’amour.
