Loverboy is a 2011 Romanian drama film directed by Cătălin Mitulescu. It premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

The story is based on real events. It follows a young man who seduces women in order to turn them into bring them into a prostitution network.

Synopsis

Un délinquant séduit des adolescentes puis les force à intégrer un réseau de prostitution basé à Constanta. Un jour, il tombe amoureux...

Un soir de printemps particulièrement froid, Barbu, au volant de sa voiture, erre dans les rues à 50 km/h au-dessus de la limite autorisée, et renverse un enfant. Romanian youth Silviu (George Piştereanu) serves a four-year prison sentence. A few days before his release, his younger brother visits him and tells him that their mother has returned, who has found work in Italy and will take the younger brother there. He says that he came by bus, but Silviu walks to the fence and sees that their mother brought him with her car. Since prisoners are not allowed to be near the fence, a guard comes to take him away, but Silviu resists. The prison director is lenient and does not press charges, so that his stay in prison is not extended.

The story follows a young boy, Elev, who is adopted by his uncle, Ioan, and his wife after Elev's father, a partisan during WWII, is killed by soldiers.
