La patota (Spanish for "The gang" or "The mob") is a 1960 Argentine drama film directed by Daniel Tinayre and written by Eduardo Borrás, starring Tinayre's wife Mirtha Legrand. It focuses on Paula Vidal Ugarte (Legrand), a young attractive teacher who takes a professorship at a night school located in a marginal area of Buenos Aires, where is she is gang-raped by a group of students. The film was in competition for the Golden Bear at the 11th Berlin International Film Festival, where Tinayre was given the C.I.D.A.L.C. Award.

Now considered a modern movie classic, La patota was remade as Paulina by director Santiago Mitre, with Dolores Fonzi playing the main role.

This conventional drama by director Daniel Tinayre handles a distinctive subject -- the onset of blindness in an adult -- and raises issues about the disability without diving far under the surface. The setting is an institution for the blind, and the featured protagonist is a man who rails against his misfortune, his energy and thinking distorted by a need to fight his blindness. Unhappy and unable to come to grips with his condition, he stirs a sympathetic chord in another blind inmate. She in turn, slowly enters into a relationship with him that starts to transform the ways he perceives himself and his blindness.
