Synopsis
Le major Kendall Laird, héros de la Guerre du Viet Nam, assume la fonction d'officier chargé de l'aide aux familles des militaires morts au combat. Il est chargé d'escorter la dépouille d'un lieutenant de race noire, et de la remettre officiellement à ses parents, à Rockville, en Géorgie. Cette ville est restée ségrégationniste [1972] et refuse officiellement que le défunt, pourtant héros décoré, soit enterré au cimetière de la ville, réservé aux Blancs.Acteurs

A divorcee, Zoe Jensen (Michael Learned), moves to San Francisco from Omaha in an effort to rebuild her life. She has reluctantly left her young son back home with his grandmother until she is more financially secure. She joins a local church choir which has just gained a new, demanding choirmaster-- retired music conductor Ephraim Adams (John Houseman). In the faraway eternally busy city of Din, live the black-and-white Rushers, who constantly go about their business in a fast-paced way and stop only to sleep. He uses his vultures to kidnap the Figs and Greensleeves, but not before Greensleeves writes an S.O.S. to Frivoli.
