Gianni Rodinò, un cuisinier sicilien, abandonné par sa femme, vit dans des conditions de misère morale et matérielle. Le berger Serafino passe sa vie à la montagne. Seulement quelquefois il fait une descente dans la vallée, où toute sa famille habite dans un petit village. Là, il rend visite à sa tante Gesuina après quoi il passe quelques « heures du berger » avec ses maitresses. À la fin de chaque visite son oncle Agenore l'approvisionne avec des victuailles et subvient à ses autres besoins matériels. Serafino se dispute souvent avec Agenore mais il n'est jamais intéressé par d'argent. Quand la tante Gesuina succombe, toute la famille se met à chercher son testament. À la grande surprise et mécontentement de tous il se trouve que la tante a légué toute sa fortune à Serafino. La situation s'envenime davantage quand ce dernier commence à distribuer de l'argent et des cadeaux a tout le monde. Enfin toutes les parties se retrouvent devant le tribunal .

Felice Della Pietà est un homme modeste et peu fortuné qui a épousé en secondes noces Adelaide. Ils élèvent Veronica née du premier mariage de Felice avec Silvia qui s'est suicidée, noyée dans un fleuve. In a restaurant six waiters are abandoned by their senior boss (Ciccio Ingrassia) who goes to the hospital for an illness. Salvatore Azzaro: the new owner, an old Roman hick, is going to give a cut to the staff and to renew the restaurant's decor; however he decides to make a bet. If the six waiters can serve him well during the evening celebration of his wedding anniversary, Salvatore Azzaro don't lay off them. But the task is difficult because the waiters hate each other and their customers to be served rather than human beings are utterly evil and bad manners.

The film is divided into four episodes. In the first Paolo Villaggio plays the role of a sailor from Genoa who learns from his doctor that he will soon become a woman. He begins to make plans and to daydream of what it will be like to be a woman. In the second episode Adriano Celentano is a former dancer in Emilia Romagna who now trains a woman for boxing fights. When he meets a beautiful emilian girl who is enrolling in a dance competition where a large sum of money will be awarded to the winners, Adriano does not miss the opportunity. He first tries to kill the boxer woman he works with, called "King Kong" and then leaves to go dancing with the girl, winning one turn after another. But as the couple wins the first prize Adriano is arrested by the police. In the third episode Renato Pozzetto plays the role of a poor mason from Milan who bets with some friends that he will be able to seduce the wife of his boss. Renato will succeed but will pay the consequences. In the last episode Alberto Sordi plays the role of hick Roman Nando Moriconi (same character of the film Un americano a Roma by Steno - 1954), this time he works as a body guard of a prominent Italian financier who has been the victim of many attempts to kidnap him .
