Synopsis
Sunny Deol plays Hussain, an honest Muslim truck driver who is forced to take on the system when he is falsely implicated in a crime. Neetu Singh (Tabu) is a police officer who is investigating the murder of the Chief Minister. While investigating the murder she falls prey to some criminal who play mind games with her. What happens next is revealed at the climax. The movie has political and social theme as its backdrop.Acteurs

In troubled Kashmir reside the Kaul family, consisting of Major Amrish, his wife Sudha, a son, Ajay, and a daughter. Ajay meets with two accidents on his motorcycle due to the carelessness of Neha Pandit, this leads to their meeting again, and both fall in love. Ajay finds out that Neha has been widowed, but this does not deter him, and he convinces her father-in-law R.K. Sharma to bless them, which he does so. Shortly after his approval, Neha is abducted by terrorists headed by Juded Afghani, who demand the release of their accomplice Naved Rabhani, and in exchange of Neha, Ms. Anita Choudhary the daughter of India's Home Minister's Bhagwat Choudhary. Ajay must abduct Anita if he is to ever see Neha alive again, but amongst Anita's bodyguard is Major Amrish Kaul, who have now re-located to New Zealand. Ajay travels to New Zealand, and does abduct Anita, only to find out that he is nothing more than a pawn in the hands of terrorists, and Neha herself, who is not what she claims to be. She's also a terrorist. Then Ajay tries to set things right and he finally kills all the terrorist including Neha and saves Anita.

Daata Guru (Amrish Puri) is a wealthy, powerful, and influential head of a village. He owns and controls all the villagers and their properties. Anyone who dares to raise their voice against him is crushed by his employee, Shankar (Dharmendra), and his sons, Guman (Gulshan Grover) and Karan (Akshay Kumar). When Daata Guru learns that Shankar has abducted his widowed daughter-in-law, Lakhsmi (Jaya Pradha), and has married her, he is enraged and wants Shankar dead. Thakur Bhupendra Singh (Amrish Puri) and his son Ajit (Rishabh Shukla) are landlords, presiding oppressively over a small Indian community. Ajit gets Laxmi (Raadhika) pregnant and casts her aside. Her brother Bheema (Amitabh Bachchan) goes to plead with them to accept Laxmi as their daughter-in-law and they reject his pleas and have him thrown out. Bheema tries to avenge this humiliation, only to have his sister killed. Bheema is imprisoned, and after his sentence is over he returns to his community, only to be told that he can no longer reside there, as the entire community is terrified of the Thakur and his men. Bheema then decides to move out of town. Some villagers and a police officer (Anupam Kher) persuade Bheema to return, and he agrees. On his return, Bheema's nephew Kanhaiya (Baby Guddu) is abducted by Thakur and his men, and he will only be returned after Bheema obtains signatures/thumb prints from everyone in the community, thereby turning over their properties to Thakur's name.

At the beginning of the movie, Nisha, a model, is kidnapped by Arjun Pandit's men. Arjun is madly in love with Nisha and wanted to celebrate Nisha's birthday, but she tells him that she does not like him. Then later on we go into the flashback of Arjun Dixit a peaceful, God-loving man who lived in Haridwar, India. He is a professor at a university in Haridwar. One day, Nisha comes to his town to research the Sanskrit language. Spending time with her, Arjun realizes that he is in love with her. She is also attracted to him, but sees him as a coward man because of his peaceful ways of dealing with things, like Sanjay, who is the rouge son of a woman MLA, bullies Nisha. Nisha challenges Arjun to show his manliness to Sanjay. Angered by Nisha's challenge Arjun beats Sanjay black-and-blue in public. Filled with anger, Sanjay swore vengeance on Arjun for the humiliation. Sanjay and his friends attack Arjun and Nisha while they were joyfully spending time together. Arjun fights Sanjay and his friends, Nisha then throws Arjun a sword which results in Arjun stabbing and killing Sanjay. Police arrives in a matter of time and Nisha tells the officer that Arjun has murdered Sanjay. Arjun gets arrested and this is when Nisha shows her true colors and testifies against Arjun creating a confusing situation. Nisha visits Arjun at the prison and reveals that her full name is Nisha Chopra and that she is the sister of Sangeetha Chopra. In a flashback, Arjun remembers witnessing one of his students (Sangeetha) being raped by Sanjay. He runs towards the situation to assist but is stopped by Sanjay's friends. Soon after Sanjay is done and leaves alongside his friends, Arjun quickly takes her to the hospital and goes to the police station to file a complaint, but Sanjay threatens to rape Arjun's sister if he testifies against him, persuading Arjun not to testify. Hearing that Arjun would not testify against Sanjay. Police said to Sangeetha if Arjun gives the statement, they will arrest and punish Sanjay ensuing Sangeetha getting justice, but Arjun, the eyewitness, is forced to give the inappropriate statement because of Sanjay's blackmailing. Police takes no action towards this case leaving Sangeetha burst into tears and urge to get justice. Sangeetha is then harrassed by majority of students at university. She writes a letter to her so-called sister Nisha about everything which has happened to her including that if Arjun Dixit gave the right statement, she would get justice and would be able to avoid the dirty misunderstandings of people. Lastly, she writes she will never forgive Arjun, neither should Nisha. She commits suicide after awhile. Returning back to the present, Arjun is found guilty and is imprisoned for murder, but then Sanjay's mother bails Arjun out using her influences and tells him that her son was wrong and deserved what he got. Arjun's parents and Nisha had already left the city. Knowing that, Sanjay's mother offers Arjun an accomodation, but he refuses telling that he has to go Mumbai. Arjun then goes to Mumbai in search of Nisha. While staying with his friend Shiva he meets Haldiraam, a hideous criminal who runs a powerful gang. Arjun finally finds Nisha dancing in a club, while he tried to approach her he beats up a guy who was talking things about her in a vulgar way. The guy turned out to be the brother of a powerful don Ramu Kaalia in Mumbai who is also one of Haldiraam's main rivals, taking this advantage Haldiraam kills the guy in the hospital making Arjun believe that he himself was responsible for the death. Haldiraam tells Arjun that the don will kill him, so Arjun should kill him first. Haldiraam hands Arjun a gun and tells him to go kill the don. The attempt is a failure, but this makes Arjun become a ruthless, cold-blooded criminal known as "Pandit", because of his hidden knowledge and yoga skills.
