Kusum as a child gets married to Vrindavan in a small ceremony. After some time her father dies in a riot and blame erroneously comes to Vrindavan's father. Due to this, Vrindavan's father rejects Kusum to be his daughter-in-law. Kusum along with his brother and mother, moves to different village away from Vrindavan's family.Now they grow up and Kusum(now Hema Malini) considers herself as the wife of Vrindavan and rejects to marry anyone else. Eventually her mother dies and her brother Kunj (Asrani) stays single as he don't want to marry till he send his sister to in-laws. On the other side, Vrindavan's (now Jeetendra) father dies and he becomes a doctor. Oblivious to Kusum's feelings, he goes on to marry another girl Lakhi (Sharmila Tagore), who was also a victim of child marriage and has no one now. They had a son Charan (master Raju) and Lakhi dies after some time due to illness. He moves to his own village and starts practice there. Once, he happens to visit a wealthy patient in Kusum's village where Kusum recognizes him, though he fails to as he only knows her pet name, not real name. Gradually they come closer and Vrindavan's mother is happy to accept Kusum as daughter-in-law. But misunderstandings develop because Kusum considers them insensitive as they not only forgot what they have done to her family but also takes her for granted now. But Vrindavan, having soft corner for her still wishes that she would come to him. Kusum grows close to his son Charan and keeps him with her during endemic in Vrindavan's village. Finally, Vrindavan and Kusum are able to overcome egoistic barriers and unite with the blessings of her brother, Vrindavan's mother and little Charan.

Ram (Jackie Shroff) is an honest young man, who accidentally hits a stray puppy with his motorbike. He takes it to the vet, then raises it as his own until it grows into an adult. Dr.Sandeep Kumar (Jeetendra), Inspector Ranjith (Rajinikanth) & Advocate Prakash (Rishi Kapoor) are thickest, best & childhood friends, the three of them grew up together because Prakash is often and Ranjith’s father Daga (Amrish Puri) is a smuggler who left him alone because of his honesty and took his mother & sister with him so Sandeep’s parents (Pran & Shavukar Janaki) brought them up. Ranjith is an honest police officer, Sandeep is a well known doctor in the city, Prakash is a leading criminal lawyer three of them has always clash with Daga who became a big gangster and doesn’t know that Ranjith is his son. Ranjith & Prakash always carrels with Sandeep because the only problem with Sandeep is he is very short temper, he cannot withstand himself if somebody does any injustice to anyone. One day Daga’s gangster (Guru Bachan) kidnaps and rapes Ranjith’s wife Lata (Poonam Dhillon) who is pregnant which is seen by Sandeep and he bits him very hard and takes promise from Lata that she does not reveal this secret. Daga takes advantage of this he kills the gangster and traps Sandeep in that case. Ranjith arrests Sandeep and Prakash takes up the case but Sandeep doesn’t reveal the truth to protect Lata so Prakash makes a story that Sandeep has made the crime to protect his wife to save him, he brings a girl Rekha (Bhanu Priya) as Sandeep’s wife whom Sandeep has protected from few gangsters once a while. Meanwhile Sandeep loves and really marries Rekha and Prakash also loves a thief Shanthi (Kimi Katkar) whose brother is killed by Daga and for whom she is under search. At the end Ranjith comes know the truth, he accepts Lata even though she got raped and he recognizes Daga is his father and Rekha is his sister whom Daga left in streets in the childhood. Finally Sandeep, Ranjith & Prakash join together and defeat Daga.
