Synopsis

Ravi Verma wins a legal battle against Sir Judah, his dead father's business partner. Shantaprasad Verma, Ravi's dead father, was a rich man in Coonoor, whose property was unjustly usurped by Sir Judah after his death. Deven Yuvvraaj (Salman Khan) is a struggling singer who Dr. Banton (Boman Irani), his girlfriend Anushka’s (Katrina Kaif) father dislikes because he is not wealthy and is rather careless at times. He signs an agreement to become a billionaire in 40 days. To acquire this wealth, he has to go through an emotional roller coaster journey of joy and pain with his two estranged brothers, Gyanesh Yuvvraaj (Anil Kapoor) and Danny Yuvvraaj (Zayed Khan), who he meets after 12 years. On meeting them, he is shocked to see that his father has left everything to the mentally-challenged Gyanesh. So both Danny and Deven make an agreement to scam their brother out of his money. Danny's attempt to blackmail Gyanesh to make him lie in front of some lawyers fails and he assaults Gyanesh. Deven intervenes and plays the good guy and helps Gyanesh and takes him to Austria in an attempt to win him. There Anushka and Gyanesh get on very well and she is amazed by his singing talent. She lets him into her orchestra which is due to perform in front of thousands of people. Deven gets jealous as Anushka and Gyanesh get on so well but soon learns to love his brother.

Raj Singh Puri (Jackie Shroff) est le meilleur ami de L.K. Malhotra (Anang Desai) qui est le jeune frère de J.K. Malhotra (Amrish Puri). Mais Isha change d’opinion lorsqu’elle rencontre et tombe amoureuse de l’héritier de l’empire Malhotra, Ronit (Hrithik Roshan), fils de L.K. Malhotra. Lorsqu’ils demandent l’assentiment de Raj, celui-ci refuse et Isha cesse de fréquenter Ronit. Raj arrange alors le mariage de ce dernier avec Monishka Rai (Kiran Rathod), fille d’un autre homme d’affaires.

Kishorilal a fait carrière et fortune aux États-Unis. Sa femme est décédée cinq ans auparavant, lui laissant un seul et unique fils, Rajiv, lequel n'a jamais foulé sa terre d'origine. Il a aussi pris à sa charge son neveu, un jeune orphelin né en Inde et émigré aux États-Unis, Arjun, en phase de connaître le succès en tant que chanteur. Kishorilal se rend un jour en Inde chez un ami de longue date, Suraj, qui l'héberge au sein de son accueillante et attachante famille. Il est très rapidement porté par cette ambiance traditionnelle et ses valeurs, et est fasciné par l'innocence et la pureté d'âme de la belle Ganga, la fille de son ami. Kishorilal demande donc la main de Ganga à son ami, qui accepte malgré les réticences des femmes de la maison qui ne voulait pas voir la jeune fille partir pour les États-Unis. De retour aux États-Unis, Kishorilal demande à Arjun de l'aider à convaincre Rajiv d'épouser Ganga, car celui-ci risque de ne pas accepter une épouse si éloignée de son mode de vie. Arjun accepte et entreprend de persuader celui qu'il considère comme son frère. Rajiv consent à cette union après un bref séjour en Inde au cours duquel il se retrouve confronté à la rigidité et à la morale des patriarches de la famille de Ganga, à l'honnêteté et au dévouement excessif de la jeune femme, à l'hostilité des habitants du village vis-à-vis des immigrés... Ganga et lui retournent ensemble aux États-Unis pour célébrer très prochainement leur mariage, et à son tour Ganga se trouve face à des cas de figure inattendus : Rajiv boit, fume, a déjà eu des rapports sexuels avec son ancienne petite amie, qu'il continue de fréquenter... Bref, leurs tempéraments et leurs attentes sont littéralement opposés... Ganga de son côté s'est beaucoup attachée à Arjun.

Le film relate la poignante histoire de Lady Katherine Beckett (Polly Adams) qui replonge dans ses souvenirs, dans les années 1940 alors que l'Inde, colonie britannique, se dressait contre la couronne pour gagner son indépendance. À l'époque, Katherine était une fillette qui vivait en Inde avec ses parents et dont le père, Peter Beckett (Michael Maloney), était un homme sans pitié. Kisna était au service de la famille de Katherine et bien qu'issus de deux cultures différentes, les deux enfants grandirent ensemble et étaient d'excellents amis. Or, le père de Katherine désapprouvait les sentiments qui liaient sa fille à Kisna et éloigna celle-ci en la renvoyant en Angleterre pour qu'elle y étudie. Quelques années plus tard, Katherine (Antonia Bernath), devenue une charmante jeune fille, revient en Inde où elle retrouve ses parents ainsi que Kisna (Vivek Oberoi). Leurs sentiments n'ont pas changé... Mais la révolte gronde : les représentants de la couronne britannique sont persécutés et chassés par les nationalistes indiens, dont le frère aîné (Yashpal Sharma) et l'oncle de Kisna (Amrish Puri) font partie. À la suite d'une attaque du domicile de la famille de Katherine, Kisna se fait un honneur d'éloigner la jeune fille de la violence qui ravage le pays en l'accompagnant jusqu'au Haut Commissariat britannique de New Delhi, qui se chargera alors de la renvoyer en Angleterre par bateau. Mais cette escorte déplaît souverainement à la fiancée de Kisna, Laxmi (Isha Sharvani) et ne fera que resserrer les liens entre Katherine et Kisna.

Shamsher Singh (Dilip Kumar), his son Pratap Singh (Suresh Oberoi), and daughter-in-law lead a happy life in an Indian village. Shamsher works as an engine driver with his friend Gurbaksh Singh (Shammi Kapoor). Pratap is appointed as the new inspector-in-charge of the village but is killed brutally by Jagawar Chaudhary (Amrish Puri), a notorious local smuggler, after Pratap refuses to help Jagawar in his illegal activities. Seeing his son dead, Shamsher Singh is enraged and he kills some of Jagawar's goons whom he had seen throwing his son's dead body in the forest. When he is about to inquire from one of Jagawar's men about the person behind his son's murder, he is stopped by the police and is asked to surrender; Shamsher somehow manages to escape. His daughter-in-law dies while giving birth to Kunal Singh (Sanjay Dutt).

The story starts off with Pasha (Amrish Puri) being taken to prison. To get out of the situation, he writes to his best man, Jackie (Jackie Shroff). Jackie goes to Shrikanth Mathur (Shammi Kapoor) and warns him. He then kidnaps Shrikanth's daughter Radha (Meenakshi Sheshadri). He tells her that he is a police officer and they fall in love; however, she finds out that he is a goon. Nevertheless, she does not leave him but urges him to surrender. Transformed by true love, Jackie surrenders himself to the police and is imprisoned for two years.
