The first film is directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Karanjit Singh Randhawa, and rest of the films are directed by Neeraj Vora and produced by Firoz Nadiadwala. The series starring Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar in lead roles. In the third film Akshay Kumar has been replaced with actor John Abraham.
This series is now the nineteenth Highest-grossing film series in Bollywood.

Raju (Akshay Kumar) is a tenant of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte a.k.a. Babu Bhaiyya (Paresh Rawal) and has not paid his rent for a long time. Mac (Akshay Kumar) est le photographe d'un magazine de mode, Garam Masala. Champak Chaturvedi (Paresh Rawal) the director of a theatre group, is offered a chance to perform a show in London. Bunty (Akshay Kumar) and Babla (Govinda) are two derps and flirts in his group, always fighting with each other to get the role of the hero. Three friends from Delhi go missing in a small village – Jhanjhar. It's two months and there is no clue about their disappearance. The media and students movement demand action from the authorities. It's then that the government orders a Central Bureau of Investigation enquiry with officers Sidhant Chaturvedi (Akshaye Khanna) and Pratap Kumar (Ajay Devgn) to solve the case. They find it difficult to solve the case as the local police and other authorities are a part of Shool Sena, which is responsible for illicit activities.
