Synopsis
Pooja est une jeune fille romantique et idéaliste qui poursuit cependant une brillante carrière. Shiv connaît également la réussite professionnelle mais il est beaucoup plus décontracté et prend la vie comme elle vient. Ils se rencontrent, tombent amoureux et se marient ce qui conduit Pooja à abandonner son travail pour devenir femme au foyer. Leur différence de caractère provoque de fréquentes chamailleries qui tournent au conflit et progressivement Pooja doute de la fidélité de son époux. Elle demande alors le divorce et recommence à travailler. C'est ainsi qu'elle fait la connaissance de Raj, riche, célèbre mais seul. Il s'éprend de Pooja qui ne reste pas insensible à son charme. Alors que leur mariage est sur le point d'être célébré, Shiv réapparaît.Acteurs

Aarti (Karisma Kapoor), dont la mère est morte, vit avec son père bien-aimé (Suresh Oberoi) et son antipathique belle-mère Shalini (Archana Puran Singh) qui complote avec son frère pour récupérer l'héritage familial. Ils habitent une somptueuse maison à Bombay, sont richissimes, occidentalisés et peu regardants sur les « vraies » valeurs. Un univers de faste et d'abondance où seul le paraître et les mondanités sont de mise. Aarti désire un jour se rendre à Palankhet, le village où se sont connus ses parents... Elle s'y rend accompagnée de ses deux employées de maison (pour ne pas dire servantes)... vraiment particulières ! Un jeune chauffeur de taxi bourru, au cœur tendre, indépendant et accessoirement excellent chanteur, Raja Hindustani (Aamir Khan), les accompagne. Il s'est ainsi nommé parce qu'il est son propre maître, Raja, et Hindustani-Indien, car il ne se revendique d'aucune ethnie particulière (hindoue, musulmane, etc.). Raja est aussi un grand timide à cheval sur les principes... Le voyage dure un jour et il est convenu de faire un arrêt de nuit dans un hôtel. Mais les deux « drôles de dames » qui les accompagnent ont oublié de valider leur réservation, et Raja propose gentiment de les héberger.

The only soldier brother (Ayub Khan) of a young woman, Roopa (Twinkle Khanna), returns to Chandanpur village to arrange her marriage. A festival is arranged in the happiness of Roopa's marriage, however Chandanpur's happiness is short-lived, as the village is raided by a group of terrorists. The leader of the terrorists, Gujjar, (Tinu Verma), murders a politician, and to make matters worse, Roopa's beauty catches the eye of Gujjar. However, as Gujjar attempts to escape with the terrified Roopa, her brother comes to her rescue, only to be slain, much to the horror of the village, especially Roopa. Also, her best friend, Gopal (Master Om Kapoor), is killed too, much to the dismay of Gopal's mother (Tanvi Azmi) who tried to prevent her son from rescuing Roopa (Due to his young age) which is what led Gujjar to kill him. Roopa, enraged by the fact that her brother and Gopal are no more, vows vengance. Gujjar threatens Roopa that she will only be his mistress and will never be able to have a brother nor lover. Enraged, Roopa attempts to commit suicide by jumping into a waterfall as she finds it better to kill herself rather than be a mistress. Destiny has other plans as Roopa survives and she steals the clothes of Kishan (Aamir Khan), a theatre actor. Kishan works with his best friend, truck driver, Shankar (Faisal Khan). When Kishan meets Roopa for the first time, he is smitten by her beauty and falls in love with her. Kishan decides to make Roopa the heroine of their dance show, however, Shankar warns him that Roopa will bring them in trouble. With no option, Roopa travels with them, and she tries to escape, but returns when chased by the gang and a drunk who tries to rape her. However, Roopa is saved by Shankar and Kishan. Roopa feigns love for Kishan, who wants to marry her, and the two men agree to help her return to Chandanpur. When Kishan is going to marry Roopa, who feels guilty over her betrayal, led, she tells them her story. Shankar becomes her brother, while Kishan, heartbroken, leaves in disgust. Roopa and Shankar return to Chandanpur, where Shankar mobilises the village, attempting to set a trap for Gujjar who has learnt of Roopa's survival and terrorizes the village to find out her whereabouts. The trap backfires horribly until Kishan returns with a suspended cop Pakkad Singh (Johny Lever). The trap is re-set with another carnival and the villains' attack as planned. Roopa is kidnapped and Kishan and Shankar give chase and are captured and taken to Gujjar's hideout where they are forced to fight him and his men. Eventually with the arrival of Chandanpur's villagers, good prevails and the terrorists meet a glory end. Roopa is united with her brother Shankar and her lover Kishan.

Shastri Suri (Shreeram Lagoo) comes from a middle-class yet honest background. He has raised his son, police inspector Siddhant Suri (Govinda) and daughter Bindiya and second son Nandu (Rajoo Shrestha) in a similar way. But Nandu has fallen into bad company. He is in debt and unable to repay his debt, therefore, he decides to rob, and does so at the house belonging to Pooja (Karisma Kapoor), when Pooja confronts him, he attacks her and as a result Pooja loses her sight. A blind Pooja subsequently weds Siddhant, not knowing that her assailant is her brother-in-law. Shastriji's employee Kanhaiyalal (Kader Khan) is greedy and ambiguous. When Shastriji stands for election, he is opposed strongly by a corrupt and avarious, Adarsh Vardhan (Shakti Kapoor). By hook and crook, Adarsh wins the election, and decides to humiliate the Suri family. He asks that his body-guard be none other Siddhant Suri. Siddhant must now choose between staying with the police force and serving his corrupt master.
