The film, which went on nationwide general release across Turkey on January 7, 2005 (2005-01-07), won awards at film festivals in Antalya, Palm Springs and New York.
Synopsis
Nazım, a primary school teacher, returns to Istanbul from his posting in the east . He temporarily takes on a job as a taxi driver with the help of his friend Atakan. One night he picks up Dünya, a singer at a club and after striking up a friendship, becomes her driver. While Nazım is waiting for Dünya to finish her performance one night, she is attacked by a man. Dünya is injured, and is rushed to the hospital by Nazım.Acteurs

After serving a 35-year jail sentence, Baran (played by Şener Şen), an eşkıya (a bandit, a haydut in Turkish), is released from prison in a town in Eastern Turkey. When returning to the home village he witness the fact that the world has changed dramatically during those years, with the village itself underwater after the construction of a dam. Then he also finds out that the person who masterminded the betrayal that brought him to jail was Berfo (Kamuran Usluer), a friend who had once been closer to him than a brother. In order to snare Keje (Sermin Şen), Baran's sweetheart, Berfo seized his best friend's gold and had Baran arrested by the gendarmes on Mountain Cudi. Then Berfo purchased Keje from her father against her will, and disappeared. According to rumor, he is in Istanbul.

Cahit, un quadragénaire allemand d'origine turque, post-punk et désœuvré, ne réussit pas à oublier le décès de sa femme. Depuis des années il sombre dans l'alcool et la dépression. Après une tentative de suicide, il se retrouve à l'hôpital, où une jeune femme, Sibel, elle aussi d'origine turque, vient également de commettre une tentative de suicide pour échapper à la pression de son père. Par chantage, elle réussit à convaincre Cahit de l'épouser pour l'extraire de sa famille sans que ce soit un engagement de cœur ou de corps. Sibel est jeune, libre, veut vivre pleinement sa vie, et rencontrer des hommes. Ce qu'elle fait. Cahit reprend toutefois, aux côtés de Sibel, goût à la vie et progressivement tombe amoureux d'elle. Sibel, de même, commence à regarder son époux officiel différemment. À la suite d'une dispute dans un bar et à des insultes sur sa femme, Cahit tue par accident un homme. Il est emprisonné et Sibel et sa famille sont déshonorés. Elle fuit en Turquie pour échapper à la vengeance familiale, tout en jurant à Cahit de lui rester fidèle. Après quelques années Cahit sort de prison et veut retrouver Sibel, dont le souvenir lui a permis de passer l'épreuve. Il part en Turquie et réussit à la joindre. Cependant Sibel a refait sa vie, et a maintenant une petite fille de quelques années.
