The film is based on the novels The Friendly Persuasion and Except for Me and Thee by Jessamyn West; the former novel was previously adapted in 1956. It originally aired on ABC on May 18, 1975. This version is different from the 1956 version because it focuses mainly on West's sequel novel, Except for Me and Thee. It was going to be a TV series with this being the pilot. Unfortunately, Friendly Persuasion did not gain as big of an audience as ABC had planned. This film is not available on VHS or LaserDisc, and there are no plans of a DVD release.

Gisella Perl (Christine Lahti), a Jewish-Romanian gynecologist from Sighetu, Romania, testifies before an Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS) review board consisting of three men (Bruce Davison, Richard Crenna, and Beau Bridges). Perl is seeking to be granted citizenship after passing the New York State Medical Licensing Board examinations, wishing to begin practicing in New York. She recounts her early life when she aspired to be a doctor despite the admonishments of her father, her time practicing as a gynecologist before the German invasion, and her experiences as prisoner #25404, where she provided what medical care she could to fellow prisoners. Her most controversial actions included providing late-term abortions to pregnant women in order to save their lives. These pregnant women would otherwise have been killed immediately or subjected to the torture of horrific "medical" experiments.

Abraham vit avec sa famille et sa femme Sarah dans la ville d'Harân, lorsqu'il reçoit un message de Dieu : il doit partir pour Canaan, la Terre Promise, où lui est annoncée une nombreuse descendance. Mais de peur de voir son fils se disputer la succession d'Abraham, Sarah renvoie Ismaël et sa mère. Dieu exige alors qu'Abraham sacrifie sont fils Isaac. Au moment où il lève son couteau, un ange intervient.
