The film was shot in Hong Kong and stars Melissa Gilbert and Melissa Sue Anderson, who both co-starred in Little House on the Prairie. The film also marked the American debut of Robin Shou, who wouldn't act in another American film, until Mortal Kombat in 1995.
Synopsis
Set in Red China in 1979, the film focuses on Judith Shapiro, an American teacher who falls in love with Liang Hong, a Chinese radical, trying to bring political reform to his homeland. She puts all her wishes and dreams away to fit into his ideals, but soon, trouble starts to come.Acteurs

Cette histoire romantique est racontée du point de vue des enfants de l'histoire, les adultes ne jouant que des rôles secondaires. Daniel Lattimer (Mark Lester) se lie d'amitié avec Ornshaw (Jack Wild), un garçon perturbateur. Un jour, Daniel tombe amoureux de Melody Perkins (Tracy Hide) et ils annoncent à leurs parents leur intention de se marier, non pas à l'avenir, mais dès maintenant. Cependant, les adultes, les parents comme les professeurs, ne les prennent pas au sérieux. Ornshaw non plus car il pense que Melody lui vole son ami. Plus tard cependant, Ornshaw et leurs autres camarades aident le jeune couple. Ils se réunissent dans une voie ferrée désaffectée pour marier le couple, mais les professeurs les suivent et essaient de les attraper. Les enfants leur échappent et font exploser une voiture. Melody et Daniel, aidés par Ornshaw, s'enfuient par draisine sur les rails.

Ravic (Anthony Hopkins), is an Austrian doctor who helped Jews escape from the Nazi regime. He was tortured in a concentration camp. In 1939 he is living in Paris, under a false name and without any documents, constantly aware of the risk of being arrested. At night, on one of Paris bridges over the Seine, Ravic meets Joan Madou (Lesley-Anne Down), a woman about to (possibly) attempt suicide, and helps her. This is the start of a romance. Rick (Zach Galligan) is the apple of his father's eye; smart, handsome, and idolized by his younger siblings (River Phoenix and Heather O'Rourke). By stark contrast, Lonnie (Molly Ringwald) is a troubled and withdrawn girl, struggling to put the painful memory of a failed suicide attempt behind her. Both teenagers are dealing with loneliness and family pressures when they begin to find solace in each other, and a young romance develops. As Rick and Lonnie's bond begins to grow stronger, and they become increasingly withdrawn from their friends and families, their protective parents begin to worry that the young lovers are becoming too involved and grow increasingly uncomfortable with the teenagers' relationship. Finally, when Rick's parents (Ellen Burstyn and Len Cariou) decide that Lonnie is a bad influence on their son, and Lonnie's parents (Marsha Mason and Paul Sorvino) decide that boarding school would be the best place for their troubled daughter, Rick and Lonnie, desperate not to be separated, make a tragic decision to take their own lives. In the wake of the young lovers' fatal suicide pact, the two devastated families are left to try and pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and must somehow find a way to go on.
