Engalukkum Kaalam Varum is a 2001 Tamil comedy drama film directed by Balaruban. The film features Livingston and Kausalya in lead roles. The film, produced by K. Prabhakaran, had musical score by Deva and was released on 9 February 2001 to negative reviews.

Synopsis

Kuppan (Livingston), after losing his mother, comes from the village to live with the family of his uncle Mannangatti (Manivannan) in the city. Mannangatti works abroad for his family. Mannangatti has three daughters : Lakshmi (Kausalya), a soft-spoken girl, and arrogant city girls Pooja (Kasthuri) and Teja (Vineetha), and a son Vellaiyan (Vadivelu) who wants to get married as fast as possible. When Mannangatti comes back from abroad, he decides to arrange his children's marriage. Pooja gets married with the rich NRI Santhosh (Vivek) and Teja gets married with Ramesh (Karan), a government employee, who wants to make it big in life. Vellaiyan falls in love with Jennifer (Kovai Sarala) and marries her. While Lakshmi refuses to marry the person her father has chosen and marries her cousin Kuppan secretly. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

Meena and Sitha, who fall in love with two guys who apparently are college professors. The girls are married off to their respective lovers, only to learn that the duo are not college professors, but two unemployed youth in search of jobs. Thrown out of the house by the furious family, the men open a fast-food eatery (what else?) to prove a point to their unforgiving wives. How the matter is resolved forms the rest of the story.

santhosh(Murali) runs a medical store along with his uncle(Manivannan) and he lives with his mother. Gowri(Kausalya) is a medical student in government hospital living with her grandfather, both become friends and they love to be in company of each other. santhosh falls for gowri but is unable to express his feelings for her likewise gowri falls for him but failed to reach him out through her letter. gowri's grandfather is supportive to her love and tells her that he will help her out and he promises to tell santhosh about this but unfortunately he passes away. As gowri completed her final exam her parents are ready to take her back to cochin which is her home town. A letter she sends before reaches his hands by that time and he rushes to railway station to meet her but train moves but a patient in train gets abdominal pain due to pregnancy and gowri is called in for a treatment, she treats the girl and a boy child is born which she names as 'santhosh'. As santhosh reaches her that time and they both join together and gets permission from her parents to be united forever.

Nadaraj (Livingston) is an honest, not-too-good-looking, village artist who comes to the city to find a job. He ends up being a banner artist. Shwetha (Kousalya) is a U.S. citizen, who loves India and its culture and stays with her relatives to learn bharatanatiyam. She is a soft-natured, loving girl who loves to help people in distress but cannot stand it if anyone lies or cheats. Initially when these two meet, she mistakes Nadaraj to be a mute and pities him. Shwetha's occasional friendlier association with Nadaraj, in the means of helping, gradually blossoms into love. By this time, it is too late for the guilt-ridden Nadaraj to disclose the truth as he feared the risk of losing her. Despite all his efforts to reveal the truth, Shwetha comes to know of his sham by herself. However at the end she realises Nadaraj's true intentions for acting as a mute and forgives him. However at the climax, when Shwetha asks Nadaraj to speak to her, he keeps silent because he had asked a doctor to cut his tongue so that he could be the Nadaraj Swetha had come to love.

Parvathiamma(Latha) is the domineering mother of three sons Kandha(Prabhu), Kadamba(S.V.Sekhar) and Kathirvela(Vivek), who do her every bidding. They move around in an auto and work at their own hotel. Parvatiamma has disavowed her only daughter ever since she ran away with a barber Vedivelan(Vadivelu). Now the daughter's wish is to have her brothers present at the function of her son. Vadivelan takes this task upon himself and enters the household. His first job is to fix up the marriages of the sons with Rupini(Roja), Ragini(Sarala) and Rohini(Nirosha). Parvatiamma counterattacks by first ejecting him from the house and then separating her sons from their wives. Whether the couples reunite and Vedivelan succeeds or not forms the rest of the story.

His confession infuriates Maheswari initially but she eventually forgives him. But further problems crop up when Maheswari and Sinthamani become pregnant at the same time. Now Murugesan is unable to abandon her since he is responsible for her plight.
