Eakantham (Malayalam: ഏകാന്തം) is a 2006 Malayalam feature film directed by Madhu Kaithapram, who made his debut. The film stars veteran actors Thilakan and Murali. It tells the story of two brothers who suffer from isolation and loneliness in their old age. It received critical praise and won many awards including two National Film Awards and a Kerala State Film Award.

Synopsis

Achutha Menon (Thilakan) and Ravunni Menon (Murali) are brothers who part ways when they are young. However, they mend fences when age catches up with them and become thick friends. Achutha Menon is shattered by the demise of his wife who had stood by him through thick and thin for the last 40 years. Ravunni Menon's woes are worse; after the death of his wife, his children neglect him. Ravunni Menon is also suffering from a terminal illness. The film ends on an emotional note.

The film revolves around Ajayan (Dileep), a clerk at a lawyer's office. Ajayan had an intercast marriage with Safia (Priyanka Nair) long ago. Small time criminal, Mahi (Mammootty) gets released from prison early. He has a reputation of beating up his rivals in the darkness. Mahi wants to help fellow inmate Balan's (Manoj K. Sivasankaran is serving life sentence for killing Surendran's father and is due to be released on short term parole. As part of a master plot, Surendran wants another man to accept the criminal charge and punishment.

Manjadikuru is a story of homecoming from late 1980s, when 10-year-old Vicky arrives at his grandparents home in rural Kerala to attend his grandfather's funeral. A gang led by Aliyar (Thilakan) holds a grudge against Police Officer Haridas (Vishnuvardhan) who was responsible for the death of Antony's (Mammootty) wife and daughter as well as Aliyar's Wife and two daughters 12 years ago and sent Antony to jail. During the struggle, Antony gets shot by Aliyar and in his defence kills Aliyar.
